Mt. Bethel UMC - Compassion Into Action
Message From The Minister

Boy Scout Troop 1011

Mt. Bethel Boy Scout Troop 1011 completed its 39th year of scouting in 2010. The Troop has over 120 active Scouts and has produced 225 Eagle Scouts (among the highest numbers in the Atlanta Council). Since the inception of the National Quality Unit Award, National Camping Award and the District Honor Roll, Troop 1011 has earned them each year....34 years in a row!! During 2010, Mt. Bethel Scouts and adult leaders performed over 9,000 hours of community service including Eagle Scout projects, Great Day of Service, as well as counselors at Camp Hope and Vacation Bible School. The 2010 Scouting for Food Drive collected over 7,200 items for MUST Ministries. The Troop served in numerous Flag ceremonies, and had 20 campouts, 3 backpacking hikes, 2 summer camps, 15 merit badge clinics, 4 Courts of Honor, 12 Eagle Scout Awards, and 2 high adventure trips. Last year Scouts earned 601 merit badges in 79 categories, 142 rank advancements, and 12 religious awards.  In addition, 2 Scouts earned the 100 camping nights milestone, 4 Scouts were inducted into the Order of the Arrow (Boy Scout honorary organization), 3 Scouts attended Georgia Boys State and 17 Scouts participated in high adventure trips.

Time spent in Boy Scouts benefits a boy in many ways. The friends he makes, the work ethic and morality he develops, the community service he practices, and the knowledge and skills he gains will help him throughout the course of his life.  Thank you Mt. Bethel for supporting the Scouting Program! To learn more about Scouting at Mt. Bethel visit www.scouts.mtbethel.org.

Cub Scout Pack 121

In 2010, Mt. Bethel's Cub Scout Pack 121 completed its 31st year of Scouting, and celebrated 100 years of scouting. The Pack is one of the largest and most active in the Atlanta area and has, once again, earned the coveted "Chicken Pin" (a local Scouting honor roll) as well as the Quality Unit Award. Cub Scouts is family oriented, and Pack 121 wants to thank all of the parents who took time to help guide and lead the 72 boys in their numerous Scouting activities.  We would also like to thank Mt. Bethel for sponsoring our Pack.  Some of our activities include: The East Cobb Parade, The Great Day of Service, Marietta National Cemetery Flag Placement, campouts, Scouting for Food, Welcoming Home the Troops, Blue & Gold Banquet, and of course the Pinewood Derby Race.

Cub Scouting is a fun and family-oriented activity, so if you have a rising 1st - 4th grade son and are interested in Scouting, visit our site., Call or e-mail Todd Pinniger at 770-579-9065 or come to our next Pack Meeting.

This may include births, deaths, serious or terminal illness, family crisis, divorce, problems with children, caring for aging parents, financial problems - literally any challenging situation.  Stephen Ministers work with people of the same gender and offer Christian care and while maintaining strict confidentially. They help by listening and sharing God's love to help with the confusion, stress, hurt, or loneliness. Please call John Semler at 770-937-0321 or Kibbie Jones at 678-560-7230 for more information.

Pastoral Care

The Divorce Support/Recovery Group meets each Wednesday at 6:30 in the H House. This group is for those going through one of the most heart-wrenching tragedies that a person can face. Divorce is not the end of one's world, but it can sure seem like it. When people go through such hardships, they need a support/recovery group where they can find acceptance, feel comfortable with, learn from, and have the opportunity to express their emotions with a group that understands.  Trained facilitators help those grieving the hurt of rejection and loss, and confused as to their place in life as a divorcee.  Together we help each other gain confidence and restore self esteem. One need not be a member of Mt Bethel to be a part of this group, so tell others.  For more information, please call Jeanette Imboden at 678-699-5755, or Mike Gillan at 4404-372-7668.
