Mt. Bethel UMC - Compassion Into Action
Message from the Minister

With all the problems the world is facing, it can be unsettling to the mind. Sometimes, it does a great deal of good to be still, stay alert, and prepare the mind to embrace the good news that is "out there."
This past week, two items crossed my desk that I want to share with you. They remind us that everyday there are many things worth celebrating with thanksgiving.
As you probably remember, Sarah Beth Holt is working in Kenya as one of our missionaries. Prior to this current ministry, Sarah Beth worked with our students as a youth associate. Not too long ago, she asked the children of the Rhema Orphanage what they would like for Christmas. She was thinking they would list small material things such as toys, dolls and the like, and that she might be able to purchase them. Instead, their overwhelming request was for a pair of shoes and a jacket that would keep them warm on cold nights. Their request would cost $25 per child or $600 total. That cost was more than Sarah Beth could afford.
Two of Sarah Beth's students from her Mt. Bethel Student Ministry days contacted her, inquiring how things were going. Sarah Beth informed them of the situation she was facing in the Orphanage. The two students went to work.
The students are sisters, Claire and Brooke Hillis (actually only Claire was in the student ministry during Sarah Beth's time). Claire is 12 and Brooke is 8 years old. They went throughout their neighborhood selling donuts and coffee. They raised over $1,000 for the shoes and jackets needed by the orphanage!!!
It's amazing what God can do when His children volunteer! That's the kind of good news we need to remember! Here's some more:

    Top Ten Predictions for 2011
1. The Bible will still have all the answers.
2. Prayer will still be the most powerful thing on Earth.
3. The Holy Spirit will still move.
4. God will still honor the praises of His people.
5. There will still be God-inspired preaching.
6. There will still be beautiful music praising God.
7. God will still pour out blessings upon His people.
8. There will still be room at the cross.
9. Jesus will still love you.
10. Jesus will comfort and strengthen and save the last and the lost.

See you Sunday with thanksgiving in my heart!

                Randy

- floor managers to call cues to the technical staff and actors

If you enjoy being part of dramatic productions, please join our team!  We've got an exciting show planned and would love to have your help in making it a success.

Missions

The Ribbons and Holly Craft show was a huge success! The Friends in Faith P.M. Circle want to thank all that participated, either as a vendor or as a shopper.  The children that sang and the handbells really made this event extra special and were enjoyed by everyone! It was a great way to start off the Christmas season with the music they provided. The quilt proceeds, which were over $400, will be going to the Mt. Bethel Foster Care program in memory of Melanie Stolz. Other proceeds collected will be distributed to many other mission projects here in the area as well as overseas. Thank you again and look forward to seeing you at the Ribbon and Holly show next year!

The HOPE Center has been blessed by many donations and they are in major need of lots of folks to come help sort them out. If you or your Sunday school Class, Bible Study or Small Group are looking for a missions project this could be your answer.  The dates they have proposed are November 22 and 29, but if you have another date your group can volunteer, please let me know and we'll work something out. Please call Sue Stone at 770-977-3273 for information.

Angel Tree Project runs through December 5. The "Angels" represent children in foster care and adults who are being assisted by the Department of Family and Children Services. Trees will be located in the connector hallway, the F Building lobby and the nursery hallway.  Please pick up an Angel  & spread the spirit of Christmas to those in need.

The Hands of Hope donation trailer will be making one last trip to West Virginia before the end of this year. As always, the needs are great for clothing for children and adults, and for household items such as sheets, towels, dishes, decorative items and the like. As we get ready to bring more stuff into our homes this Christmas, why not clear out some stuff that can be put to great use by the people in this poverty stricken area of Appalachia. The trailer is located in the NW corner of the church parking lot near the CAC. Thank you.
