Mt. Bethel UMC - Compassion Into Action
Message from the Minister

All Saints Sunday
All Saints Sunday will be observed on October 31. It is a day of remembrance for the saints, with the New Testament meaning of all Christian people of every time and place. We celebrate the "communion of saints" as we remember those now living in the Father's House, both of the Church universal and of Mt. Bethel. The names of Mt. Bethel's members who died during the past year will be solemnly read as a candle is lit in their honor during today's Sanctuary worship service. As each name is read, we invite the family and friends to stand in tribute.

"Enter His Gates" A Crossfire Thanksgiving Celebration - Sunday, November 7, from 6:30-7:30pm in the Sanctuary. Thanksgiving is an American tradition that should be especially meaningful for Christians. It gives us an opportunity to change our focus from our prosperity to God, the source of our prosperity. "Enter His Gates" is a collection of songs and skits that asks us to switch our focus from our stuff to the God who gave us that stuff- and to give back from our prosperity. Come join us as we explore issues of materialism, greed, and jealously, as well as poverty, hunger, and need, and hopefully get inspired to give thanks and give back!  Bring a canned food for admission!

New Member Class - Saturday, November 13, from 9:00-11:00 in the small Dining Room. If you're ready to join Mt. Bethel, have questions about the church or just want to find out more information, plan on joining us. A tour of our entire campus is included.  Childcare is available. The Mini Day is a way to personally reach out to families with special needs and to senior members of our congregation who have given so much to Mt. Bethel.  Most of the jobs include raking, cleaning, mulching, and digging, so it is a great opportunity to serve as a family! Register online today.

Operation Christmas Child/Mt. Bethel Commitment Sunday | Sunday, November 21 | Both Worship Services

Life changed forever for Mahdat when he received a shoe box at a church in his Tajikistan village. The change was not the result of the gifts he found in his box, though he treasured the candy, toothpaste, and colored pencils.  He was most excited about the Gospel storybook that he received with his box.  The storybook led to questions and his ultimate acceptance of Jesus as his Savior.  The Gospel storybooks that are distributed with the shoe boxes are now printed in 70 languages.  Once they receive their shoe boxes, the boys and girls are invited to participate in a voluntary Bible study course produced by Samaritan's Purse. Join others from Mt. Bethel as we fill shoe boxes with gifts of love and hope and bring them to a service on Sunday, November 21 for dedication. Flyers with packing information and labels are located throughout the church. Additionally, you can print your own packing label at samaritanspurse.org. For more information, contact Carmen Abernathy.

The Atlanta Center for Self-Sufficiency (formerly the Samaritan House) has already gotten requests for winter wear (coats, jackets, gloves, caps, scarves, ear muffs, etc.) In addition, they always have a need for men and women's dress clothes, i.e. suits, dresses, sport coats, slacks, dress shirts, blouses (please use hangers), ties, shoes and belts to wear on job interviews. Casual clothes, men's leather dress shoes and new underwear & socks are also needed. Drop items off at the Missions trailer to the left of the CAC. Tax receipts are available in the front desk of the CAC. For more information, please contact Sam Smith at 770-565-8233.
