Mt. Bethel UMC - Compassion Into Action
Message from the Minister

  God Works for Good...

Many of us point to the above as one of the most comforting and calming quotations during moments of anxiety. It is found in Romans 8:28. No doubt, this Labor Day weekend faces many of us with challenges. Some of the challenges and worries are frightening as we peer into the economic future. I invite you to remember the above Scripture and, perhaps, this little homily, also.
We should do everything we can do in every situation and leave the rest in God's Hands.
There was an old farmer who had an old horse for tilling his fields. One day the horse escaped into the hills and when all the farmer's neighbors sympathized with the old man over his bad luck, the farmer replied, "Bad luck? Good luck? Who knows?" A week later, the horse returned with a herd of wild horses from the hills, and this time the neighbors congratulated the farmer on his good luck. His reply was, "Bad luck? Good luck? Who knows?" Then, when the farmer 's son was attempting to tame one of the wild horses, he fell off the horse and broke his leg. Everyone thought that this was very bad luck. Not the farmer, whose only reaction was, "Bad luck? Good luck? Who knows?"Some weeks later the army marched into the villages and conscripted every able-bodied youth they found there. When they saw the farmer's son with his broken leg, they let him off. Now, was that good luck? Bad luck? Who knows?
God is with us, and He does work for good in everything, with those who love Him. Because of God's dependability, all who know Him and love Him can reply to the challenges of life, "Good luck? Bad luck? Who cares?"
During this Labor Day celebration, may you witness God's caring love first hand.

                    Randy

Construction of Mt. Bethel's 28th & 29th Habitat Homes begins Tuesday, September 7. Volunteers are needed to build the homes - no experience required. Each of those days there are from 15-30 volunteers we need to feed well so they can do the work we are called to do. So if you don't think you can't paint or hold a hammer, you can be a part of this incredible mission by serving those who can. Please call Sue Stone at 770-977-3273 to sign up for your date.
