Message from the Minister
Looking ahead to the 23rd Psalm "Lord, please keep me in Your flock and don't let me stray."
All my life, I've been a "why?" person. I drove my mother crazy with my incessant "why" questions. I was rarely satisfied with just a simple answer - I wanted details; I wanted reasoning; I wanted to know how we ended up with the answer; but most importantly - I wanted to know "why?" Oh, to be sure, I wasn't being precocious; I just simply wanted to know why. And so I carried that behavior right into adulthood - and find myself still asking the question, "why?" In our Navigating Life Series, beginning August 15th, as we dig into Psalm 23, one of the most well-known scriptures of all, the process of discovering the "why" about the author, David - King David, will be a curious adventure. It will be fun to bring to life the why behind God's choice of David the shepherd boy; the why along David's journey from that early, humble beginning, where at one point I have no doubt that the shepherd boy, David wondered, "Why me, Lord?" to the ultimate, most beloved heroes of all scripture - King David. I want to discover what God saw in him - in spite of himself; Why David made the choices he made; and finally, how David settled into a faith that was totally and completely dependent upon his God - the God of Israel - asking Him to be the Shepherd of his life. So, before we can understand the significance of the 23rd Psalm, we must first look at the progression and journey of David's life from a small shepherd boy, son of Jesse to powerful King David - a man who left the safety of his earthly father's home - to bond into Palace life under the watchful eye of a mighty King, all the while developing a passionate heart which yearned for nothing more than to please his Heavenly Father. "Why is this important for me and for my life today and what can I learn from him?" You see, as we look at David's path I believe that we will be able to pinpoint our own rights of passage along his growth chart and find that our joys, our struggles, our disappointments; our LIFE is truly no different than his. In fact, as we grasp the concepts of his journey, and embrace his wonderful "humanness" it will better equip us as we allow God in Christ Jesus, THE Shepherd, to help us navigate our lives on this earth. Children from age 3 through 5th Grade (God's Garden, Camp Splat & Surf's Up) and their families will worship in the Gym, Olympia Room & Aerobics Room at their own "Back to School" celebration. Adult Sunday School classes will meet as usual, but no Sunday School for children. Instead of our normal breakfast, we will have a covered dish lunch in the Fellowship Hall immediately after each worship service. The church will provide pulled pork, buns, fruit, baked beans & drinks. We are asking each family to bring a dish that would serve 8-10 people as follows: If your last name begins with A - H, please bring a salad (fruit or green); For last names I - P, please bring a side dish (vegetable or casserole); For last names Q - Z, please bring a dessert. Please drop your dish off in the Fellowship Hall prior to worship. No lunch tickets are necessary. The shuttles will run from 8:15-1:30 on August 8.
The New Member Class is a short, informal gathering designed to help you get connected. This introduction to Mt. Bethel will clearly explain who & what our church is. We have several classes scheduled for the year: Saturdays, August 21, September 25 & November 13 (you don't have to attend all of these, just one). The class is from 9:00-11:00 in the Small Dining Room. Childcare is available. For more information or to register, contact Krista Downing - 678-560-7226.

face with a name? Are you a new member & wish you had something to
help you put names with faces? We are producing a pictorial family album!
There is no cost to have your photographs taken, and you will receive a free
8x10 portrait & directory for participating. You will be able to view
your images electronically immediately after photography. At that time,
you will have the opportunity to purchase additional portraits to share with
family & friends. Photography starts in August. Visit the sign-up table on

Our Joys & Concerns
The altar flowers are given to the Glory of God and in celebration of the 90th birthday of Bill Ziegler, Sr. and in loving memory of Nellie Lindner, given by their family. The rosebud on the altar is in honor of the birth of Charlotte Leigh Rogers, daughter of Sam & Haley Rogers and granddaughter of Tony & Susie Rogers, on July 14, 2010. The Paschal Candle burns in honor of the life of Dennis Harvison and Steven Farley, now living in the Father's House. The Paschal Candle also burns in honor of the baptism of Kelsey Paige Crowe, daughter of Bradley & Lindsay Crowe; and Caroline Dawn Taylor, daughter of Mark & Nicole Taylor. We extend Christian sympathy to Deborah and Clay Harvison in the loss of Deborah's husband, Dennis Harvison; to Jackie, Bryan & Caitlin Farley in the loss of Jackie's husband, Steven Farley; to Bogue, Becky, Bogie & Carrie-Welles Miller in the loss of Becky's mother, Mary Ailene Weeks; to Ron, Bridgette, Ryan & Nikki Raitz in the loss of Bridgette's mother, Marilyn Monroe; and to Jim, Joan, Matt & Lauren Skesavage in the loss of Joan's mother, Marcia Imken.
