Mt. Bethel UMC - Compassion Into Action
Fall Kick-Off Celebration

Mark your calendar for our "Fall Kick-Off Celebration" on Sunday, August 8. All worship services will be combined in the Sanctuary at 9:30 & 11:00.
    Children from age 3 through 5th Grade (God's Garden, Camp Splat & Surf's Up) and their families will worship in the Gym, Olympia Room & Aerobics Room at their own "Back to School" celebration.
    Adult Sunday School classes will meet as usual, but no Sunday School for children.
     Instead of our normal breakfast, we will have a covered dish lunch in the Fellowship Hall immediately after each worship service. The church will provide pulled pork, buns, fruit, baked beans & drinks. We are asking each family to bring a dish that would serve 8-10 people as follows:
    If your last name begins with A - H, please bring a salad (fruit or green);
    For last names I - P, please bring a side dish (vegetable or casserole);
    For  last names Q - Z, please bring a dessert.
    Please drop your dish off in the Fellowship Hall prior to worship.
    No lunch tickets are necessary.

The shuttles will run from 8:15-1:30 on August 8.

Help Georgia's Most Abused Kids - Murphy Harpst provides therapeutic services to Georgia's most severely abused children:
1. Giving children a home. For most, Murphy-Harpst is their last hope, having often failed in as many as 10-20 previous placements.
2. Giving children a chance. Our program is designed to heal the whole person which includes professional therapy and Christian nurturing.
3. Giving children hope. Eighty-two percent of Murphy-Harpst children progress to less restrictive environments such as foster care.
Murphy-Harpst exists because there are children who need our help. With our help, they can grow up to hold jobs, maintain relationships and become productive members of their communities. Sunday, July 18, is Murphy-Harpst's Annual Day of Giving for the North Georgia Conference. Please give generously by writing a check to Mt. Bethel with "Murphy-Harpst" on the for line.

The New Member Class is a short, informal gathering designed to help you get connected. This introduction to Mt. Bethel will clearly explain who & what our church is. We have several classes scheduled for the year: Saturdays, August 21, September 25 & November 13 (you don't have to attend all of these, just one).  The class is from 9:00-11:00 in the Small Dining Room. Childcare is available. For more information or to register, contact Krista Downing -  678-560-7226.

Do you want information about the planned Mt. Bethel's Courtyard (Columbarium) and Memorial Walk ?
For more information, please contact Gale Koven - 678-560-7450 or Dan Boswell - 678-560-3259.

Do you ever see people & wonder what their names are?  Have you ever heard an announcement regarding a member & wished you could put a face with a name?  Are you a new member & wish you had something to help you put names with faces?  We are producing a pictorial family album! There is no cost to have your photographs taken, and you will receive a free 8x10 portrait & directory for participating.  You will be able to view your images electronically immediately after photography.  At that time, you will have the opportunity to purchase additional portraits to share with family & friends.  Photography starts in August. Visit the sign-up table on Sunday mornings or call Krista Downing at 678-560-7226.  We look forward to seeing you!

Can you help? There is a family in the area that has taken guardianship of 3 young children. They need twin bunk beds and one other twin bed that are either free or can be purchased inexpensively.  If you have these items and would like to help this family, please contact Sherry Reed.
