Mt. Bethel UMC - Compassion Into Action
Message from the Minister

"Summertime"

The other day, driving to the office, the following song, "Summertime," from the 1935 classic, Porgy and Bess, written by George Gershwin and DuBose Heyward, came on the radio.  As I listened, I thought about how much the words of this song relayed that which we teach at Camp Hope.  Surely that doesn't surprise you - I mean after all this is our 11th year and we are only three weeks out from camp - so of course I am totally in the "how does that relate to the children of Camp Hope?" mode!
The thing is - we teach Biblical Truths to the words of this song.  For example:
    Summertime and the living is easy; Fish are jumpin' and the cotton is high;
 - we teach them, go play and have fun - do not be anxious about anything (Philippians 4:6-7)
Oh, your daddy's rich and your mama's good looking' - the richness of your Heavenly Father far outshines any man-made shine or possession (Psalms 11:4-7; 49:12 and Luke 12:20-31) and the inner beauty of your mother expresses the joy of a relationship with Jesus Christ (I Peter 3:3-5a)
So hush little baby, don't you cry.  We teach them that God has a plan for them - and that this "temporary situation in which they live" will one day turn to joy (Jeremiah 29:11 and Luke 6:20-23)
One of these mornings you're gonna rise up singing - then you'll spread your wings and take to the sky - we teach them that there is nothing that can keep them from the love in Christ Jesus - (I Kings 3:11-14 & John 8:32)
But till that mornin' ain't nothing can harm you with your mama and papa standing by - We teach them that no matter what happens in their lives, the disappointment, sadness, suffering, that God will ALWAYS be there to help them
(Isaiah 40:28-31 and 43:2-5)

This year we will have over 20 new campers, 4th graders, coming into our program for the very first time - if you can come help us change the trajectory of these children's lives, we need eight more adult men and ten more adult women to complete our team from July 10-16. Please call Rev. Diane Parrish at 770-971-6646 and join us!  Also, we ask that you keep us in your prayers!

                God Bless!
                Rev. Diane Parrish

Our Joys & Concerns

The altar flowers are given to the Glory of God and in celebration of the marriage of Leah Whittaker & Justin Smith, on June 25, 2010, given by their families.
The rosebud on the altar is in honor of the birth of Cecelia Bree Benich, daughter of Beau & Kriya Benich and granddaughter of Tim & Diane Benich, on June 17, 2010.
The Paschal Candle burns in honor of the life of Betty Sue Wiesner and Mary Garfield, now living in the Father's House. The Paschal Candle also burns in honor of the baptism of Adilay Hope Hammonds, daughter of Chris & Megan Hammonds.
We extend Christian sympathy to Len Garfield in the loss of his wife, Mary Garfield; to Heidi, Mo & Sloan Isom in the loss of Heidi's mother-in-law, Mary Isom; and to Bruce & Kay Hacker in the loss of Kay's sister, Peggy McMachren. May God hold you in the palm of His hand during this time of grief.
We wish to congratulate Nancy Fowler & Bill Braun who were married in our Chapel on June 19, 2010 by Rev. Wil Parker.
Recently hospitalized: Elna Cook, Donna Fraser, George Mangus, Bob Nash, Tina Thomas.
