Message from the Minister
Happy Mother's Day
In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson made it a national event by designating the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day. Who is a mother? Officially, she is the female partner in the creation of a new life, but Mother, Mama, Mom and Mommy is also: . . . the one who knows when you have a fever without a thermometer. . . . the one who can stop a brawl with a look. . . . the one who says, "Go ask your Dad," and then listens to make sure he answers correctly. . . . the one who cheers the loudest from the bleachers. . . . the one who runs "taxi" or arranges "taxi" for her own, as well as the neighbors. . . . the one who knows her children are the smartest in the world . . . and allows Granddad to inform the rest of the world. . . . the one who "picks the ball up" concerning the children's religious instruction when Dad abdicates. . . . the one who cries softly at the movies, in church, at birthday parties and at special times or whenever someone says, "I love you, Mom." . . . the one who makes the house, home. . . . the one who bakes a cake for anyone with a special need, and threatens the family if they touch it. . . . the one who learns how to sew so her girls can wear "nice clothes." . . . the one who says, "Don't make me come in there!" . . . the one who loves enough to allow her children to fall down on their own, but is the first one there to pick them up. . . . the one you do not want to disappoint. . . . the one who knows how to heal more hurts . . . kiss away more bruises . . . cook anything the best way . . . run the house on a limited budget . . . and she's one of the ones you miss forever when she's gone. God bless you, Mothers, all of you . . . thank you and we love you.

Wesley Woods Mother's Day Offering 2010 - Wesley Woods takes to heart the simple message of the old hymn, "Help Somebody Today." Older adults, including those with limited means and many needs, have been their mission for more than forty years. Many have nowhere else to turn. At Wesley Woods, they are most definitely "somebodies," traveling life's way in dignity, with the support of compassionate friends. The help takes the form of quality residential service in nine facilities, excellent geriatric health care as part of Emory Healthcare, and specialized care for conditions like Alzheimer's & Parkinson's disease. The North Georgia Conference designates Mother's Day for the support of charitable care at Wesley Woods. This offering is the primary source of funds to subsidize living expenses and health care costs of the thousands that are served. To contribute, please make your check payable to Mt. Bethel and write "Wesley Woods" on the for line.
Father Child Campout - Friday/Saturday, June 4-5 on the "Fields of Dreams." Grilled dinner, catered breakfast & entertainment. Sign up at the Men's Ministry page.
Do you want information about the planned Mt. Bethel's Courtyard (Columbarium) and Memorial Walk ? The Courtyard will be located on the north side of the Sanctuary with vaults for urns containing cremated ashes. Each niche holds two urns. The Memorial Walk is inside the Courtyard. Memorial bricks may be purchased. Stop by the Chapel on Wednesday night, May 5, between 6:00 & 7:00 to see the plans and begin the process of reserving a niche. For more information, please contact Gale Koven - 678-560-7450.
Teachers

Please join us for the National Day of Prayer service on Thursday May 6 from 6:30-8:00pm in the Chapel. The theme for this year is "Prayer for Such a Time as This" and is based on the verse from Nahum 1:7 which states: "The LORD is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in Him." We will pray for our Government, Military, Media, Businesses, Education, Churches and Families.

Volunteers
Needed for Vacation Bible School - What a wonderful opportunity for all
Mt. Bethel members to participate - from children to senior adults! Our VBS
sessions are June 7-11 from 12:30-3:30 and July 19-23 from 9:30-12:30. Sign
yourself and your children up online. Teens need to fill out the form and turn
it into Children's Ministry Department. We have fun learning how to live and
love like Jesus. The Bible stories come to life for all of us as we go from
station to station to have a hands on experience. Please call Dianne Hylton -
770-971-5074.
What if...you help a child grasp that God can guide their lives? What if...tomorrow is today? What if...this summer is your time to lead? Don't miss your opportunity! We need you to volunteer twice this summer from May 31 through August 2 to: * Teach Preschool Sunday School * Teach Elementary Sunday School * God's Garden * Camp SPLAT * Volunteer at June or July Vacation Bible School - June 7-11 12:30-3:30 and/or July 19-23 9:30-12:30 Contact Dianne Hylton - 770-971-5074 to sign up now.
Attention all World War II Veterans (and their Family & friends)- You, the Greatest Generation, will be honored, on the 65th anniversary of the end of World War II, at the Patriotic Concert to be held on Sunday, May 23, at 5:00pm. To properly do that, we want to know who you are. Anyone who served in uniform during any part of World War II - Army, Army Air Corps, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard - and Merchant Marines - including those who served here in the US and those who served overseas, are encouraged to identify yourself for us. You can stop by the church office and leave your name and branch of service in WWII, and how to contact you (e-mail, phone, or mail) or, you can e-mail Bob Babcock or you can mail him a note at PO Box 682212, Marietta, GA 30068. We encourage all church members to give us names of our living WWII church members (we'd rather get the same name ten times than to miss someone who deserves to be recognized).
Would
you like to volunteer with the Georgia Special Olympics summer games at Emory
University May 23? Rev.
Kim McGarr is coordinating the volunteer list. Please contact her at kim.mcgarr@mtbethel.org.

special. Please let Larry Armstrong know by the Sunday, May 9,
sign-up deadline for this trip.
Thank
You, Mt. Bethel! There
has been a wonderful response to our West Virginia mission trips this year--so
much so that we have added two more for a total of six teams which will be
serving the needs of the severely poor in this Appalachia region of our own
country. If you have a small group that would like to consider participating,
contact Larry Armstrong for more details. Also, your generosity
has resulted in our collection trailer being filled several times with clothing
and household items. The need continues. Please pack your items in travel-ready
boxes with the contents marked outside the box. And please be sure to put them
inside the trailer and not outside the trailer on the parking lot. Do you know
someone moving or having a garage sale? Ask them to consider donating items
they no longer use which might be useful to, or brighten up the day of someone
much less fortunate than we are.
