Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church
Message from the Minister

This Sunday, we will continue the series "Whole-Hearted Love" and will focus on the role of husbands. I received the following scenarios from a relative and offer them as ideas for husbands to avoid:
    1.  My wife sat down on the couch next to me as I was flipping the channels. She asked, "What on T.V.?" I said, "Dust." And that's when the fight started . . .
    2.  My wife was hinting about what she wanted for our upcoming anniversary. She said, "I want something shiny that goes from 0 to 200 in about 3 seconds." I bought her a scale. And that's when the fight started . . .
    3.  When our lawnmower broke and wouldn't run, my wife kept hinting to me that I should get it fixed. But somehow I always had something else to take care of first - the truck, the car, playing golf. Always something more important to me. Finally, she thought of a clever way to make her point. When I arrived home one day, I found her seated in the tall grass, busily snipping away with a tiny pair of sewing scissors. I watched silently for a short time and then went into the house. I was gone only a minute, and when I came out again, I handed her a toothbrush. I said, "When you finish cutting the grass, you might as well sweep the driveway."
The doctors say I will walk again, but I will always have a limp.

Without humor, there would be no happiness. Our wives definitely have a sense of humor . . . look at who they married!
Ladies, have a great retreat this weekend! Gentlemen, I look forward to seeing you this Super Bowl Sunday . . . in church!
                        Randy

Missions Ministry

Sign up now for a mission trip to West Virginia. Two dates have been set and more trips may be planned if necessary. Space will be limited, so look at your calendars and join this very meaningful effort to assist the poor in the Appalachia region of our own country. Activities on the 3-day trip will include lunch delivery to children, food box preparation, sorting of clothing donations, and more. Go to HOHM.org for more information. Trip dates are April 29-May 2 and July 29-Aug. 1. Adults and children over 14 are welcome. E-mail Larry Armstrong.  Also, please continue to support this ministry through donations to the Hands of Hope collection trailer located on our parking lot. We especially need household items (towels, linens, kitchenware, small working appliances, personal hygiene items, decorative pieces, etc.). Please pack items in travel-ready boxes with contents marked on outside.

Young Adult Mission Trip this Summer- From June 2-16, a group of young adults from Mt. Bethel will be traveling to Kenya to make His love complete by loving those He chooses to put in our path. We will join with Glory Outreach Assembly, an East African organization devoted to making Christian disciples of all nations, and serve in several orphanages throughout Kenya. Opportunities for this specific trip will include spending time with orphans of all ages, providing Vacation Bible School-type activities for the children, evangelizing in various communities, and feeding those who are living on the streets. In order to best serve those whom we will be visiting, we have chosen to sacrifice some of our physical comfort and camp on the orphanage grounds. This will enable us to spend more time with the children and get to know them better as we live alongside of them for these two weeks. We will, however, have a chance to shower and sleep at a hotel every 3-4 days throughout the trip. This trip will be physically, emotionally, and spiritually demanding, but we believe God will provide our every need and sustain us throughout our journey. There will be another trip to Kenya in July if the nature of this trip does not appeal to you. Anyone can sign up for this trip; final cost will not exceed $3400; Mt. Bethel UMC will pay 1/2 of church member's costs who have not been on a foreign mission trip before or if you are under 23 years old. Please contact Gaylyn Kelly if you have any other questions. Final costs will be announced as soon as possible. To register for this trip, e-mail Gaylyn Kelly, fill out the short-term mission trip forms on this site, and drop off a $400 non-refundable deposit. If you have any trouble downloading the forms please contact Heather Wood in the Missions Department.
