Ministry
Update

Greetings!
Since our arrival back in Argentina in early August we initially had a somewhat difficult transition back into our life and ministry here. However, God has been faithful in accompanying us through the process and blessing us with continued and growing ministry with the teenagers and college students of Cordoba. Here is a quick update about what is going on, and how you have been a part!

Cordoba Cup 2011 On October 15 we had our annual evangelistic soccer and volleyball tournament. This year we had around 650 in attendance, most of whom were not affiliated with any church. Our own youth group organized three teams inviting their friends from school to participate. During lunch we had an evangelist give a 15 minute presentation of the gospel. With such a rowdy crowd, it is difficult to command attention, but our speaker Andres had all 650 listening with rapt attention. He spoke of mans enslavement to sin and how Jesus came and died and rose again so that we might have life and freedom in him through the forgiveness of our sins. When it came time for the prayer to receive Christ 38 kids and adults raised their hands indicating that they had given their lives to Christ! |
Less of Me More of Him: Camp 2012 Our theme based on John 3:30 where John the Baptist makes the statement "He must increase, but I must decrease." was our cry this year in camp. We had our junior high and high school camp back to back with our College camp in early January (the middle of our summer). We spoke on idolatry. Anything, even good things, if they become ultimate things, are idols. It was touching to see how God's patience led them to see that soccer, boyfriends, music, friendships, parents, studies, careers, and their own plans for their lives were not worthy of their hearts' worship. In our high school camp, that led to four of our kids to receive Christ as their savior and only Lord. In our high school camp we had a total of 36 in attendance, and in our college camp we had 30. God has given us 60 kids to disciple and lead in His ways over the last 4 years, and that was a huge encouragement to us. |
Furlough Last year in January we had reached the three year mark in our ministry and it was time for a trip home. Blessings: Our time with my family was very sweet. We went from one family reunion to the next, celebrated my Grandma's 80th birthday, went camping, celebrated a late Christmas in February, and much more! We were able to visit almost all of our partnering churches, and individuals and thank them face to face for their love and support. Thank You: We are so thankful for the people God has brought along side us to minister the gospel to Argentina's youth and college. Your encouragement, your passion for the gospel, and your love for us were a great support and wonderful gift to us on furlough. We want to thank all of you for the hospitality, prayers, gifts, and love you gave to us during our time in the States. It is a privilege for us to be your sent ones to Argentina. We thank God for you! |
We're Pregnant! After what seemed like an eternal wait, God has blessed us with a baby. Maria Silvia is now 19 weeks pregnant and so far everything is going well. The baby is due on November 18th around the beginning of our summer. In two weeks we find out if it is a boy or girl. Please pray for us as we prepare for life as parents. Thank you to those of you who prayed for us during this time of waiting.
If you would like to help us to prepare for our little one you can look us up as "Sasha Rasmussen" or "Maria Silvia Rasmussen" in our Baby Registry. at Amazon.com. Let us know and we can have gifts shipped to people who will be coming down on missions trips so they can bring some things with them. |
We bought a car! We have been saving for the last couple of years, and also have received a few large donations during that time which enabled us to buy a 2005 Chevrolet Astra in March. It is in great condition and has low miles, and after doing ministry for four years in Cordoba without a car years it as been an immense blessing. Thank you for your generosity! |
Recent Happenings: Easter College Retreat In April we had a spiritual retreat with our college ministry. We had around 30 in attendance and spoke about what it means to be a Disciple; "And he said to all, 'If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.'" (Luke 9:23 ESV). Many kids made important decisions, and deepened their faith.
New Believers Damian Jimenez, Carolina Gonzales, and Melina Luna have all recently received Christ. Please pray for them as we disciple them and they grow in their new faith! Portable Youth Center We have begun to do our portable youth center event in the park again shooting for once a month. The response the community as always has been very positive. Our neighborhood now knows us as the church that wants to help teenagers and college students. That is a very good thing! Besides the volleyball, basketball, kids-corner, ping-pong, and open mic, we also had an evangelistic team serving coffee and talking about the gospel with people from our neighborhood. New Generation of Argentine Missionaries God is beginning to call some of our kids to cross-cultural and vocational ministry. Ayelen Felipe Mazza will be taking a 6 month missions trip from our church to a church plant we have started in a small town in the Andes called "Cachi". Nestor Pastor surrendered his life to the call God has placed on his life for missions and has begun studying to prepare himself through our Seminary "William Carey Bible Institute". Other students have begun to prepare themselves for ministry as well even though they aren't entirely sure where that will take them yet. Please pray for the new generation of laborers God is raising up for his harvest! |
