Horse sharing case study in Berkshire
Georgie Lynch shares her horse Merlin, a 16.2 Irish draft, with Charlotte Sheringham whom she found through
yours2share
Georgie, a 33 year old software business development manager from Warfield in Berkshire,
has shared several of her horses before, but always with friends or friends of friends.
This is the first time she has advertised for a sharer and the first time she has shared Merlin.
Georgie: “Merlin is a big strong horse. I knew I had to find someone who could cope with him and on whom I could depend.
I’d had a few sharers in the past who were friends of friends, but they were often unreliable.
It has been easier to work with someone I didn’t previously know. I had several replies through yours2share.
One early response she came over to meet and ride Merlin, but it was clear she didn’t have sufficient experience.
Because I didn’t know her, I found it easier to tell her politely that she wasn’t suitable.” |

Georgie: “In fact Charlotte replied to a different yours2share ad
posted by someone else in my yard, whose horse is in the next box to Merlin. When Charlotte came to the yard,
it was clear that Charlotte was a little heavy for this horse. But Merlin was perfect for her.
Charlotte then suggested a colleague as the sharer for the other horse and this sharing arrangement is also going well.
yours2share has enabled two shares.”
Georgie: “I’m so lucky. Charlotte is a perfect sharer. She is takes Merlin out two or three times a week for a hack,
turns up on time, and helps out in every way. I compete with Merlin most weekends but during the week
I just don’t have enough time to spend with him and take him hacking.”
Charlotte Sheringham, a 35 year old ambulance controller from Farnborough, had owned a horse before and wanted to return to riding.
She had also shared a horse for a while before the horse was put on permanent loan.
Her 18 year old son also rides and she was looking for a horse that they could both ride.
Charlotte: “Georgie and I hit it off right from the start and everyone in the yard gave me a great welcome.
I thought my constantly changing shift patterns would make it hard to find a horse share,
but Georgie fits her riding around my shifts during the week. We agree the times each week in advance
when I know when my shifts will be.”
Charlotte: “I found yours2share on Google and it was easy to use.
I’ve recommended it to several friends and colleagues, both for horse shares and other assets particularly property.”
Here is yours2share's current list of
horse shares offered and wanted.

Moderators wanted for yours2share’s new forums
We’ve just started work on the new yours2share website which should be launched in late August/early September.
One major new feature will be user forums enabling you to tap into the boat sharing, horse sharing, landsharing
or any other sharing community.
As I’ve always made clear, I am not a property, boat, aircraft, horses or any other kind of asset expert, my expertise is in enabling people to share stuff.
Therefore I’m looking to find people to help me moderate the sections for each category. Initially we will start with these forum categories: property, boats, aircraft, horses, motorhomes, cars and allotments.
Each moderator have several years’ experience as a:
- private individual within a private syndicate
- or commercial fractional ownership provider.
You need a good knowledge of the particular category and must feel comfortable using a forum.
If you are interested in getting involved, I’d love to hear from you, just reply to this email.
More guidance on Monday to Friday lettings
In last month's newsletter I wrote about Monday to Friday lettings
which generated far more interest than anything I've written before, so I've updated the guidance on weekday rentals:
In fact everything you every wanted to know about Monday to Friday or weekday lettings!
Here is the current listing of Monday to Friday lettings offered and wanted.
Donations please, and thank you!
It would be fair to say that when I wrote our web page
"Is it really free? Where's the catch?" explaining how and why we don't charge, and that we are always grateful for donations, I wasn't holding my breath about the revenue that was likely to be generated. However I can report that people do actually make donations (many people were very cynical about this, including me) and that over the last couple of weeks we've been given several large sums for which I'm very grateful (and slightly, but enjoyably, stunned).
One member's explanation for their donation:
"We appreciated the sale of two shares in our boat through your site. We shall use yours2share again when we get round to sharing our next boat in a year or so - we think it is a great site and have recommended it to lots of people."
And finally, here are a few of yours2share's recent ads that I really
like.
Selected ads are entirely my choice and ads with great quality photos always have a better chance of being picked!.
