What to include in a horse sharing agreement yours2share now has over 120 ads for horse shares and these are predominantly horses available for part time loan. In these arrangements, the sharer has access to the horse for specific period(s) each week. There should always be a written agreement covering: Start and end date of agreement Names and addresses of the owner and sharer Details and description of the horse Where the horse is stabled and any facilities there to which the sharer has access The time that the sharer spends with the horse each week, defining exactly how long they spend riding, feeding, grooming and mucking out. Any other benefits the sharer receives, such as going to shows or lessons Information the sharer needs to know for their and the horse’s safety, anything that scares the horse, any or all roads that should not be used The amount and frequency of payments to be made by the sharer and the method of payment (if any) Details and condition of any equipment, stating the make, size and colour Details about insurance cover, veterinary and farriery provision Who cares for the horse if either party is on holiday or ill? How the agreement is terminated, for example if the owner is unhappy with the way the horse is cared for A statement that the sharer cannot sell, loan or lease the horse to others and that the horse is loaned at the sharer’s risk We have horse shares template contracts available here and strongly recommend that horse shares are properly documented. In the past they generally weren't written down and bitter disagreements were sadly not uncommon.
