DuPage Elected Officials Got Some 'Splainin' to Do
EXTRA!EXTRA! Election Commission Ethics Policy Under Serious Scrutiny Thanks to Citizen Mobilization (photos) DAILY HERALD ARTICLE here EVEN BETTER!! You have the opportunity to comment on these very incomplete and ineffective policies by downloading them here and sending comments here BY AUGUST 4th. PLEASE DO THIS TODAY!!
1. WHAT, NO REVOLVING DOOR POLICY?:
Election officials can procure a one million $$ contract with a vendor on Monday(and considering Mr Saar has no problems actually developing a product and becoming a vendor on your tax dollars, this isn't hard to imagine), then quit the job with the Commission on Tuesday and be earning that $million with that vendor on Wednesday. READ IT, it's true. 2. NOT TELLING THE TRUTH ON YOUR STATEMENTS OF ECONOMIC INTEREST = $1000 FINE, UP TO A YEAR IN PRISON OR BOTH: AG Candidate Birkett claims in Daily Herald vendor article above that Mr Saar "misunderstood a poorly worded statute". YOU BE THE JUDGE. (Remember that Mr Saar has been getting royalties of thousands from his invention for years BUT has consistently written that he has no financial benefit from this job though his Ask Ed units sell over the country and the company in which he has a serious financial interest is a VENDOR at the lavish IACREOT conference which you pay for Saar and the Commission to attend!!!!)
Here is the "poorly worded" section of the Economic Interest Form:
6. List the name of any entity doing business in the State of Illinois from which income in excess of $1,200 was derived during the preceding calendar year other than for professional services and the title or description of any position held in that entity. (In the case of real estate, location thereof shall be listed by street address, or if none, then by legal description.) No time or demand deposit in a financial institution nor any debt instrument need be listed. Here is the "poorly worded" penalty for lying on the SEI which is immediately followed by the filer's signature: I understand that the penalty for willfully filing a false or incomplete statement shall be a fine not to exceed $1,000 or imprisonment in a penal institution other than the penitentiary not to exceed one year, or both fine and imprisonment."
A CLEAR ETHICS POLICY ON OUTSIDE GIFTS AND BUSINESS ARRANGEMENTS CAN STOP THIS KIND OF ACTIVITY IN ITS TRACKS!!!
3. DENNIS REBOLETTI (R-46) TOUTING A CAPITAL BILL THAT HE VOTED AGAINST: In a continuing pattern by our Republican brethren, Mr Reboletti is happy to vote for projects he knows he can entertain his constituents with come election time Yes votes on HB 2400 and 312 on 5/21) but doesn't really feel like paying for them (HB 255 5/21and SB 349 on 6/30).
AREN'T YOU SICK OF HAVING "LEADERS" WHO DON'T WANT TO DO THE RIGHT THING?? DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT TODAY!

WORD FROM THE CHAIR Dear DuPage Dems,
Recent demands for ethics reform, campaign finance reform and an end to "pay-to-play" politics has resulted in legislation passed in Springfield that addresses these areas. However, despite criticism by Republicans that the legislation didn't go far enough, they have continued to apply a different standard to DuPage County. There have been no changes to county ethics policies, no attempt to address campaign finance reform, and no end to "pay-to-play", all contrary to the promises of DuPage legislators and County Board Chair Bob Schillerstrom. Here's an example.
The DuPage Election Commission, Joe Birkett, and Bob Schillerstrom have a lot in common. The law firm of Bond, Dickson & Associates was paid $176,000 by the DuPage County Election Commission in 2008 for legal fees. Records show that Pat Bond contributes heavily to only Republican officials/candidates including recent and past contributions to Joe Birkett and Bob Schillerstrom. In the first 6 months of 2009, he has contributed $10,000 to Republicans.
Dan Curry is the spokesperson for the DuPage County Election Commission and receives $36,000 a year. Curry has been paid $22,000 by Birkett in the first half of 2009 as his spokesperson. Dan Curry, through his company Reverse Spin, contributed $1,950 to the Bloomingdale Republican Party, not to any Democrats.
Bob Schillerstrom has received thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from companies that do business with the county and who have received millions of dollars in contracts. Schillerstrom also appoints the members of the Election Commission who hire Pat Bond and Dan Curry.
Bob Saar, Executive Director of the DuPage Election Commission, was cleared by Birkett of any wrongdoing in having ties with and receiving money from Robis. Pat Bond represents the commission and Bob Saar. Bond contributes to Birkett. Birkett and the Election Commission hire and pay Dan Curry. What are we missing? And people say this only happens in Cook County.
THE INFORMATION ABOVE AND OUR CONTINUED WORK TO ROOT OUT CORRUPTION IN DUPAGE IS WHY WE NEED YOU TO GIVE TODAY!
Progress in 2008 was great, but we rely on your support to maintain our momentum! Remember, the more successful we are, the more our capital outlay to hold and grow that success. Everything we do from press releases to phone contacts to rallies to getting Freedom of Information Acts filed COSTS MONEY. Many of these things we do SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO. PLEASE send your donation today to show you value this vital work.
Our Act Blue link is an easy and fast way to give and get it off your mind!
PLEASE CLICK HERE and GIVE TODAY so that we can invest your gift in the tools we need to vote in a better tomorrow!
