IDO Become an Important Democratic Operative
HOW CAN I JOIN?
- You can write a letter to the editor supporting the work or ideals of DuPage Democrats and have it published.
THEN WHAT HAPPENS?- You get a copy of your published letter to us and you will receive an OFFICIAL IDO button which will be the envy of all your friends (get two letters in and we'll raise the ante!)
WHY ARE WE DOING THIS? - The media in DuPage generally does not offer balanced coverage for both the Dems and Repbulicans and creates sins of OMISSION on a regular basis that cloud or divert the story being reported. We are the eyes and ears of "the rest of the story" as Paul Harvey used to say.
CAN YOU HELP ME GET STARTED PUTTING A LETTER TOGETHER?
- Of course, just give us a call and we can help you find a topic or get a short template to you for you to work with.
SOME PLACES YOU CAN SEND LETTERS (write to us with more addresses as you find them)

The Party of "No" Solutions here in Illinois and in D.C.
Dear DuPage Dems,
Republican legislators continue to plan
for their 2010 election by refusing to agree to a tax hike and by
failing to offer any plan of their own to fix the $9 billion budget deficit.
That's politics.
The Republican legislators forgot that Republican
Governor Jim Edgar made permanent a temporary tax hike when he took
office. Edgar has said recently that a tax hike is needed if it's
coupled with spending cuts. When Governor Quinn suggests the same, the
Republican's circle the wagons and get into their defense mode and
become the "Party of No"- no to anything proposed by Governor Quinn, no
tax hike , no cuts, no nothing. They have taken the same position of
former Governor Blagojevich. They will allow the state to collapse if
it helps them in 2010.
Voters also need to remember that Republican Governor George Ryan left the state with a $3 billion deficit, and they need to remember what Republican County Board Chair Bob Schillerstrom
did when the county faced a $40 million deficit. He cut human services,
slashed over 200 jobs, called for a 20% across the board cut in each
department unless the voters agreed to raise taxes. Afraid to face the
prospects of having voters say no to a proposed sales tax hike, Schillerstrom went to Springfield and got the Democratic leaders to agree to a DuPage bailout plan.
Schillerstrom then came back and worked against the tax hike knowing it
would have failed anyway. He got his tax hike with the help of
Democrats. Now, where are the Republicans and where is Schillerstrom? He wants to be governor. Wow.
Governor Quinn has demonstrated
leadership by suggesting unpopular ways of balancing the budget.
Illinois is next to last in state bureaucracy with a $3 billion
payroll (54 workers per 10,000 compared to a national average of 85). If ALL jobs in Ilinois were eliminated, the state would still
face a $6 billion deficit. Get to work and offer solutions not campaign
rhetoric. And we need to make sure that NO ONE forgets the Republicans cowardly behavior in 2005 and today.
IN THE MEANTIME...Come see us for dinner at the Golf Outing. Help us earn a little dough for the tough job ahead while meeting candidates, legislators and friendly Dems from across DuPage. Call Amy today to make your reservation! 630-629-1125

BUDGET CRISIS CALL-IN DAY TODAY
Thousands
of concerned parents, advocates, and professionals are going to the
Capitol on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 to lobby for a tax increase that will
prevent severe cuts to programs across the state that serve children,
youth, working parents, individuals with physical disabilities or mental illnesses, veterans, college students, and ex-offenders in treatment and job training programs.
If you are not going to Springfield,
you can still participate in this important rally by calling your
elected officials at their Springfield offices. The governor and our
legislators need to hear from people who live in their districts!
Please call your representative and senator along with the governor and say:
"Hi, my name is ______ and I live in ______. I would like to speak to Representative ______/Senator ______/Governor Quinn."
You will probably be told that he/she is not available. If so, ask to leave a message:
"I
am calling to ask Rep. ______/Sen. ______/Gov. Quinn to work with
others in Springfield to resolve the current budget crisis. I support
an income tax increase
from 3% to 5% and an expansion of the sales tax base in order to fund
education, health care, and human services across the state. I am
counting on your leadership in this important effort!
Thank you for your consideration."
Please call your state representative (Illinois House) first and then call Gov. Quinn (217-782-0244) and your state senator. Ask five other people to do the same! Every call is important, and we need a lot of calls to come in from the districts.
GO here to look up senate and house members
Thank you for your advocacy for Illinois' most vulnerable children, youth, and adults!
