MUST READ FOR ALL DUPAGE RESIDENTS WHO CARE ABOUT JUSTICE and
THE FUTURE OF ILLINOIS

Victims of Justice Revisited
by Thomas Frisbie & Randy Garrett

"This is the first comprehensive account of the most extraordinary criminal case I know - the infamous Nicarico murder -and the 12-year crusade for justice which it inspired. The two men who were on the scene the longest, and who probably know more about this case than anyone else, have written a gripping, provocative, often moving account of how great evil -and good-came to take place." -- Scott Turow

THE WRITE STUFF

Dear DuPage Dems,

It's time for DuPage Democrats to be heard. An easy way for Democrats to get out their messages is by writing letters to the editor. It sounds easy and it is. Writing letters to the editor is free, takes little time, and allows you to express your ideas about issues as well as responding to local news stories and events.
Newspapers will print your letters if you just take the time to send them, and we'll help you make it as easy as possible. After this letter there are links to the major local papers for your convenience. Need help writing one? Call me. Here's one example of how and why we need to get our message out and how fast it could happen.

An article in today's paper that quoted Joe Birkett is a perfect example. Mr. Birkett, in a viral letter to Governor Quinn, stated: "Pat Quinn and Illinois Democrats are the only ones making the choice between tax hikes and cuts in vital services." Ring a bell? If you said you heard Republicans in DuPage giving that same option to voters not so long ago, you win a prize. County Board Chair Bob Schillerstrom gave residents that same option - a sales tax increase or massive cuts in service when the Board faced a $40 million budget deficit in 2005. When the Board suddenly found a $40 million hole in the budget, Schillerstrom took 18 months to decide on a solution. His solution offered voters the option of a sales tax increase or a loss of over 200 jobs and massive cuts in human services. Afraid to put a proposal to the voters for a tax hike, Schillerstrom marched to Springfield and asked the Democrats for a bailout. The Democratic legislature, the same group getting pounded by the Republicans, OK'd DuPage increasing its sales tax by .25%.

Schillerstrom got his $40 mil plus and began putting it to use. One of the first things he did was to create a job for Minority Outreach Coordinator and guess the name of the person rumored to get the job?. It was none other than Yolanda Campuzano, former County Board member who lost to Rita Gonzalez in District #1. Minority Outreach Coordinator was just another term for a person who would be paid by tax dollars to recruit votes for the Republican Party. When Democrats exposed Schillerstrom and his gimmick, the idea was put on the back shelf. This is what we need to do to get our message out to the voters and expose the shenanigans of the Republicans.

The newspapers and the DuPage Republicans are harping about Ethics Reform in Illinois not going far enough. Well, what are they doing in DuPage when it comes to ethics, campaign finance reform, and transparency? Nothing. The Republicans continue to get campaign money from contractors who do business with the county. This is recycled tax dollars going to the contractors and back to Schillerstrom and the rest of the Republican elected officials. Schillerstrom is rumored to take a run for governor. Does anyone really think he'll approve any measure that limits how much money he can raise?
Letter, letters, letters. It's a way to get out our message. Write one today. You'll be glad you did.

Bob Peickert, DPDC Chair

Please thank Paul Froehlich (D-56)

HB 4051 passed unanimously in the Illinois Senate 57-0, finally ending a three-year power struggle regarding the DuPage Election Commission's destruction of OUR public records. Last month, the bill also passed unanimously in the Illinois House 117-0. Illinois Governor Pat Quinn is expected to sign the bill into law shortly.
