WRITE-IN CANDIDATES We spoke to Doreen Nelson of the Election Commission and were told that the verification process is still going on. What we learned, however, is a cause for some concern and it would be nice to have a few folks who are interested in Election Commission Oversight to get together and shepherd this situation as their first project. So: 1) If you have been toying with the idea of being on this committee, please write to OTDB@ameritech.net RIGHT NOW with "ECOC" in the subject line 2)There seems to be no quick and transparent way to determine whether the statutes for judging write-in votes were followed a) were the judges aware of the names of those who were filed and declared write-in candidates? b) did the judges hand-tally and validate the write-in votes after the polls closed that evening? (in the opti-scan box, they are kicked to a different area and are to be removed and tabulated on the spot.) If a group of judges neglected to do that and put all the ballots together, who made that determination ex post facto and was that done fairly? c) did the judges use the appropriate discernment standard in an impartial manner to determine if the write-in candidate met the threshold to qualify (10 proper write-ins)? d) if the procedure was followed correctly, what kind of paperwork was done to verify the reasons a candidate did/did not make the threshold and where is that information?
It is a good idea to get on this THIS WEEK as the certification is due on the 26th and, if we don't get this resolved, valid write-in candidates who have been misjudged may be disenfranchised at the County Convention. PLEASE WRITE TO US TODAY TO SAY YOU ARE WILLING TO HELP! Beginning to have a say and a presence at the Election Commission RIGHT AWAY helps guarantee a fairer, less confusing election in November.

I AM SO EXCITED!! WHAT CAN I DO NEXT TO TURN DUPAGE BLUE???
HELP US WITH THE ST PAT'S PARADES We have two parades for you to choose from: one in Naperville at 10 a.m on the 15th and one in Elmhurst at noon. We need:
- organizers (it's fun, it's time-limited, it's very interactive!)
- callers who work with the organizers to get folks to show their GREEN AND THEIR BLUE (the more callers we have, the more people we can get to each parade)
- For the Elmhurst parade, we need float designers and builders
Parades are a great way to network, to show our growing strength to the community (and gather supporters who are presently on the sidelines), and to support our local candidates who will be walking with us. Please take a look at this youtube video of OTDB and York Township in last year's Elmhurst parade. For those who wish to work on the Elmhurst parade where we will be walking with Gary Nowak and our County Board candidates, call 630-469-4931. For those who wish to walk with the Dems, Dianne Mcguire, Scott Harper and others in Naperville, call Matt Tom at 630-848-2111.

county board oversight Yikes, our fully Republican County Board now has money to solve their problems for now but it's kind of like putting a bandage on a hemmorhage! We need folks who are willing to attend meetings, tally the comments and votes of these folks keep track of the veracity of the info they put out to the public. THEN, we need to stay on their backs as to how they spend their new-found pot so that we don't end up right back where we were before Springfiled bailed them out. ALSO, any information garnered by this committee will, of course, be helpful to our Dem Board candidates in fashioning their message to media and their voters. IF YOU WANT TO HELP, write to otdb@ameritech.net with CBOC in the subject line TODAY!
For election oversight commission, see the piece on WRITE-INS above.
