PERFORMANCE. RESULTS. ACTION.
300
MEETING MINUTES FROM 11/15

AGENDA:
*Rounding up the first 300 days. Not surprisingly, thanks to all of your hard work and persistence, OTDB garnered more than 2/3's of the new recruits the County proudly told you about last week as well as contributed significantly to the uptick in candidates filing for office. GREAT JOB.
* Figuring out together our strategy for the NEXT 300 days and beyond! Our discussion included:
  • Building dynamic precinct organizations. (Connie showed some telling statistics from real DuPage precincts that illustrated how working your precinct makes the numbers of voters coming to the polls skyrocket.)
  • Determining the issues facing DuPage County (Topping the list: Budget Responsibility and Transparency, Integrity of the Ballot Box, Public Transportation, Affordable Housing, Equitable Taxation, Education Funding)
  • Helping candidates hone in on those issues to further galvanize Dem support from precinct to poll. (See the Candidate Spotlight Below and Campaign Disclosure Seminar in Upcoming Events)
  • Committing to getting write-in candidates and newly slated PCs to the County Convention so OTDB's momentum can continue. We explained the process, handed out example candidacy statements and challenged members to find ONE write-in candidate to attend the FIRESIDE and get Statements notarized.
  • Emphasizing that OTDB welcomes ALL who are interested in principled, issue-based, accountable two-party government in DuPage
It was a small but energized meeting with several new members attending. We look forward to seeing everyone at the FIRESIDE CHAT on Dec 4 and the joint DuPage Dem/OTDB Holiday Party on Dec 18th.

COUNTY BOARD WATCH. As you may know, the County Board has decided to float a 1/4% Sales Tax referendum in Feb to see if that can be approved by the people. If not, they will move forward with a $50 vehicle sticker assessment. Why it has taken so long for them to truly face the budget problem (which is blamed routinely and often solely, on Springfield) is truly a mystery considering this same discussion was had over shortfall in early 2006.
Starting at the beginning of the year, OTDB will be fielding a special COUNTY BOARD  WATCH GROUP. A few of us have already been attending and OTDB has been handing out flyers for the last year highlighting the lack of shared sacrifice by board members and the duplication of their efforts by having a bloated board. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HELP the citizens of DuPage as well as our Democratic candidates stay on top of the deeds and promises of the County Board, please contact otdb@ameritech.net

ELECTION COMMISSION WATCH
These have been busy times for our election attorney. Here are some of the highlights of what has happened since November 5th filing deadline
1) False Dem (i.e. multiple R hired by who knows who) files at the last minute in Addison 6( stamped at 5:00 sharp....). OTDB  EC Group spearheaded by Justin Major files a challenge which results in the filers withdrawal of his petitions (to escape perjury charges one might surmise).
2) Several PC candidates are thrown off the ballot...one because she was not a registered voter though she had her registration receipt in her possession before getting signatures (action still pending). Two others with ethnic last names were tossed and this is still being investigated. Their ethnicity may not be related but we'd like to find out.
3) One Dem County Board candidate gets kicked off because if a small technicality but one Rep sails through even though his error also represents "apparent non-conformity" standards. We are still awaiting a response form the commission on this one.

IF YOU KNOW OF ANY OTHER IRREGULARITIES, please contact justinmajor@gmail.com
