 WACO CONVENTION CENTER
RENOVATION UPDATE NEWSLETTER

February 2010

The newest photo album shows the progress made on the renovation. It is located at:
http://www.wacocvb.com/renovationpix.asp.

The latest photo album, dated 1/26/2010, has labels on the photos to help you determine what they are. Each item discussed in this newsletter is also portrayed in the photo album.

On the lower level, every wall is torn down except the Ranger Room walls. A doorway has been opened up in the back of each Ranger Room, opposite from the current public doors, to give access via the hallway for staff to enter the room. The staircase is completely gone and the concrete that was formerly at the base of the stairs is opened up and the tensioning rebar is still intact above the dirt.

In the Texas Rooms, framing is up for the permanent walls. There will be a new entrance from the University Parks Drive side that will come through what was formerly Texas 2. That becomes a wide hallway and foyer. Texas 1 will become Texas South, and we will be able to subdivide it with partitions into two rooms (one large one and one smaller one). Texas 3 will become Texas North, and will also be able to be subdivided into two rooms (one large one and one smaller one).

The photo album shows how the front sidewalk on the Washington Avenue side has been removed.

Electrical and sound panels are being tested and moved since rooms are being taken down for renovation in a sequence. If the entire facility were taken down all at once, it would not be a concern; but we are taking rooms down in a certain order and electricity and sound must be maintained in those rooms that are still available for rental.

Brazos Room Status

Internet service is still available using a CAT-5 cable. There is one Internet connection available in the Brazos Room. As you are walking into the room, this connection is available on the right side of the room, near the kitchen area.

Wireless internet is generally available in the lobby area but should probably not be relied upon as construction progress has occasionally affected its availability. In the past, wireless has only been available in the lobby area; but after renovation, it will be available in every room.

Currently, the partition that divides Brazos Room into North and South is not working well and should not be relied on.

Currently, the only entrance to the Convention Center

is the set of doors under the covered walkway from

the Hilton Hotel, on the Franklin Avenue side.

All other entrances are fenced off.

Room Availability

On February 1, all the rooms in the Convention Center will be unavailable due to renovation with the exception of Brazos Ballroom and Cameron Room. Between February 1 and May 31, 2010, these will be the only rooms available for rental. On June 1, 2010, Chisholm Hall is scheduled to become available, although this is subject to change. Several rooms will go back under renovation later in the summer and others may come available. As the schedule firms up, we will send you more information.

Bosque Theatre and DeCordova Room will no longer be available starting February 1. They will be under renovation for at least a year, since the plan calls for them to be "switched." Bosque Theatre will be rebuilt where DeCordova Room is currently. DeCordova Room will be rebuilt where Bosque is currently.
