ART SALE BEGINS, INCLUDING PRINTS
"Title page" ORIGINAL ART FROM WINGS FROM THE WIND
 | We are featuring 10% discounts on original art this month at Cellar Door Books. Our consignors have agreed to these discounts to make the paintings more attractive to you. The consignors wish to sell pieces that they've admired for many years. Click on the ART button at the top of our web page. The original art includes two early pieces from Tudor's "blue" book The White Goose (1943), [22412-22413]. An even earlier small painting is the dedication page from Alexander the Gander (1939), [25948]. There are a number of lovely pieces to examine and that you might choose for your own walls. One particularly nice painting is "The Emperor's New Clothes" that was used in Fairy Tales from Hans Christian Andersen (1945), [22414]. This is a very nice example of Tudor's early work spread across the entire page in the book. Another intriguing piece is one of the buildings from A Christmas Village (1984), [23767]. This is a three-dimensional English town building that was published as a three-dimensional Advent calendar. But Tudor had the painting laid flat - she would have painted it that way - atop a second backdrop that she painted as a blue sky. The back painting was not published and contains additional figures at the left and right ends. The piece begs the question: where are its three companion paintings? We have not seen them nor do we know who owns them. Lastly, Bethany Tudor has painted some small cards that resemble her mother's bird Christmas cards. Items 5976, 5977 and 5978 are discrete paintings, although they were all painted at the same time in 1999.

"SPECIALS" BUTTON ON OUR WEB PAGE
We've added a new button to our web page. Click on SPECIALS and we will advise you of unadvertised discounts on merchandise. The items will change from time to time. Right now there is a print of the Richard Brown photograph of Tasha Tudor in her garden [23712]. This print measures 8 1/4" x 10 1/4". It was produced by the Jenny Wren Press and originally sold through that Indiana partnership of Tasha Tudor and Beth Mathers.

PARDON OUR ABSENCE
We apologize for the brief hiatus in publishing the Tasha Tudor Newsletter. There were no issues for March and April. John became ill as we were writing the March Newsletter. Our personal health suddenly became of paramount importance. All else took a back seat as we dealt with urgent matters at hand. We have learned as never before that medical emergencies aren't scheduled. They happen and must be addressed.
In the same vein, we had planned and were looking forward to a speaking tour in central Pennsylvania just about now. That trip had to be canceled. Health allowing, perhaps we can schedule something in the future.
In the meantime, we are recovering; we've slowed the pace of our lives. This means lots of things. We will continue to operate Cellar Door Books and welcome your orders. We do expect to be in the shop less on no particular schedule. If we're here, we will gladly visit with you, answer your questions and provide guidance in building your collections. Please call several days in advance if you plan to be in New Hampshire and would like to stop by. We'll be happy to meet you as long as we're here.
If you call and we don't answer the phone, please leave a message. We will respond as quickly as we can. Your orders will be filled and shipped promptly. You should always call if an order fails to arrive in a timely fashion. We'll work to determine what may have occurred.
Finally, we have given serious thought to selling the business. Some one of you might appreciate the opportunity to establish a new outlet for the art and craft of Tasha Tudor. Our business includes inventory, an efficient data base, and a customer list. Please let us know if this business opportunity appeals to you, or if you know of someone who might be interested in taking over the enterprise. We'll be happy to discuss details and answer questions from those with serious inquiries.
Thank you for your understanding.

MARKET IN TRANSITION A GOOD TIME TO BUY
Now is the time to stretch your dollars as we clear some of our shelves. Prices for Tasha Tudor books, art and related material have moderated in the last two years. If you have watched eBay or other parts of the used book market, you may have noticed this. This is a good time to purchase. Prices are more attractive than they have been in some time. We were glad to offer you significantly discounted prices during the Christmas season. It was nice to hear from a number of customers who hadn't ordered in a long time. And it's always a pleasure to meet new customers who've just found our web site. We are reinstituting many of those discounts. We invite you to browse our web site to find good buys for your collections, now. You will find lower prices in all categories.
