Mary Mason Campbell

We were saddened to learn yesterday of the death of Mrs. Campbell. Four of her books were illustrared by her friend Tash Tudor.

Mrs. Campbell had lived in Rhode Island for a number of years.  Google "mary mason cambell monahan" to retrieve her obituary.

Vice Admiral  Lauren Strong McCready

Lauren McCready
We regret to inform you of the death of Vice Admiral Lauren S. McCready, Tasha Tudor's brother-in-law.   Admiral McCready was the youngest and last surviving of the 4 McCready children (1910-20).  He resided on the old farm in
Redding, Connecticut, and died there Friday November 16, 2007. We will miss his sparkling eyes and nice smile.  For more information see the Wikipedia page    click here
Tudor fans will know the McCready farm from Pumpkin Moonshine.   Tasha Tudor featured her in-laws in her first little book in 1938.  Sylvie Ann Wallace's trip to the cornfield was up the hill behind the McCready house.   We believe that Admiral McCready made provision for the farm to be placed with the Nature Conservancy.  So in the future it may be possible for you to walk in Sylvie's cornfield, too.

Valentine's Day is coming

Tasha Tudor made Valentine's Day a celebration only slightly less exciting than Christmas in her home.  In her very first (unpublished) book, Tudor introduces Hitty Fillow who went with her sister Melinda to spend Valentine's Day with their friend Dilly Atkins.   They made molasses candy and had a pulling bee.  Melinda didn't put enough butter on her fingers, so the candy stuck to her "most dreadfully."

Tudor created wonderful Valentine fantasies for her children when they were young. Tiny Valentines exchanged among dolls and bears and small children were one of the most exciting parts.  All these were embellished with small images from Tasha Tudor's magical brushes.  If you search our web site for valentine, you will find items to create your own Valentine surprises. We have the very same mini valentines (#18190 for 20 cards w/ envelopes or #21950 for the Valentines w/the catalog of images and verses) that  the Jenny Wren Press published circa 1989.  Buy during our January White Sale for extra savings !

Dr. Cupid Corgi's Laboratory of Love is a fanciful [Advent-type] calendar  of an alchemist's studio.  Another calendar Be Mine features two young children mailing their individual valentines.  Both "calendars" have 14 doors to open beginning February 1st !   The print Valentine Heart is available in a large and a mini print.  We have some of the large print signed by Tasha Tudor.  We also have a Valentine card with a different image of Dr. Cupid Corgi's laboratory. This card has a poem written in Tasha's hand.
