Caledon Links
Greetings!

Winter Golf BallFortunately Leo beat the snow and has put the course to bed for the winter after our run of fabulous fall golfing!  It was great to see so many people out playing during the first week of November - in shirt sleeves!

Don't miss our Annual Pro Shop Christmas Sale and stock up on end of season savings of up to 70% -- a great way to treat yourself, or pick up a gift for the golfer on your shopping list.

Or consider some of our NEW golf packages for the 2009 season, which start from $100 and are perfect Christmas gifts for your favourite golfer.

In an effort to continually improve our service to you, our loyal customers, we have a short survey at the end of this newsletter. We'd appreciate it if you'd take a few minutes to complete it, and to thank you, everyone who completes the survey will be entered to win a $200 golf package that includes two Caledon Country Club green Fees with cart, and Adidas TaylorMade Caledon Country Club branded hat, divot tool, and fleece sweater.

We thank all of you for choosing Caledon Country Club as your home course or one of those that you chose to play in 2008.  Please give us your feedback on what you love (and what you don't) about your Caledon Country Club golfing experience.  Now is the time that we prepare our budgets and plan our programming for 2009, and we are here to serve your needs.  How could we encourage you to play more often at Caledon in 2009?  And what motivates you to play any particular course, for that matter?  Beyond the questions in the survey, we do provide space for feedback - so anything you want to let us know about, please send us a note!

We'll be sure to stay in touch during the winter months with our electronic newsletter, sending you updates on upcoming events and happenings, off-season golf conditioning tips, and the latest information from the world of golf.

On behalf of everyone at Caledon Country Club, thank you for your patronage during 2008 and we look forward to serving you again in 2009.

Kelly Myles
General Manager
We recently received this feedback from a golfer who hadn't played at Caledon for almost two years.

This particular golfer had played most of his recent golf at some of the high end courses in the GTA.  He came to play at Caledon on one of the gorgeous days we had this fall:

" Wow, Kelly!  Your course was in such fabulous shape!  The greens were as good, and frankly better, than any high end course I had played on all summer.  I had forgotten what a great golf experience I could get in my own back yard."

Thanks to Leo, our fabulous Golf Superintendent, for keeping the course in such superior shape!   It's the main reason golfers keep coming back to Caledon Country Club again and again!

Help for Golf Addicts

Now that the golf season is finished for another year, what is the golfer going to do with their idle time during the winter months?  Here are some suggestions, as supplied by our resident Caledon Country Club golf addicts.  Feel free to add your own ideas to this list, and drop us a note and let us know what you'll be up to over the winter!

During the long winter months a golf addict can...
  • Read about golf - in books, magazines and online.
  • Watch golf on TV - the 2009 PGA Tour starts on January 5th with the Mercedes-Benz Championship.
  • Putt in your living room or down the hallway - your family will love you for it!
  • Play the golf course in your head when you can't get to sleep - beats counting sheep!
  • Go to your favourite indoor golf facility - your family will be glad to get you out of the hallway!
  • Plan to play the Headwaters Golf Trail in 2009!
  • Plan to attend the Toronto Golf & Travel Show,
    February 27th to March 1st, 2009
  • Take up "yoga for golf" - or at least meditate about it!
  • Track your 2008 putting statistics - that should be interesting!
  • Set realistic golf goals for 2009 - and write them down
(you can analyze them next winter to see how you did).
  • Make a golf gear "wish" list - if you get this done before Christmas and leave it lying around you may get a better gift than a soap-on-a-rope!
  • Consider a golf junket to the sunny south - it's what all the Club Pros do!
And if you wonder what your local Golf Professional does during the off season, you'd be surprised to hear that it's not all leisure and golf junkets.  We spend time cleaning up from the past season and then planning for the upcoming season including reviewing and ordering new product for the Pro Shop, planning events, activities and tournaments, and getting ready for the annual Toronto Golf & Travel show.  That being said, I do take the opportunity every year to take a group of golfers from our club to a Pro-Am tournament down south.  Our upcoming trip to the Dominican Republic is already full, but if you're interested in future trips, please let me know and we'll add you to our list.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a happy holiday season, and I look forward to catching up with you in the spring and seeing you at the course once again in 2009!

Yours in golf,

Kevin Purcell

Caledon Country Club's Ryder Cup!
Caledon Country Club
For the past three years Caledon Country Club has been competing in our own version of the Ryder Cup.  In fact, you've probably noticed our Ryder Cup trophy proudly displayed in the Pro Shop!

The Caledon Country Club/Cambridge Golf Club Ryder Cup is a fun event where each course picks their top eight players (through a qualifying process), and these top eight join with the Head Professional and Assistant Professional from their respective clubs for this two-day tournament.

Cambridge Country Club was victorious in the inaugural year of the tournament, but for the past two years Caledon Country Club has reigned victorious - hence the Ryder Cup trophy, proudly displayed in our own Pro Shop.

If you are interested in qualifying for the 2009 Caledon/Cambridge Ryder Cup (which is held at the end of September), be sure to talk to our Pro Shop staff, and start practicing over the winter months, to help you make the cut!
