Greetings!
New Holes Unveiled on Sunday, July 20th! The course changes are now in play as the 17th and 18th hole redesigns were put into play on Sunday July 20th. While the rain dampened many golfers' spirits, by Monday the sun was shining and curious golfers were teeing it up in droves. The course will now play at just over 6500 yards, extending play by over 350 yards. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. We're so convinced that you'll want to try the new holes that we're offering you a special "replay" opportunity -- buy a "replay" game on the same day you play the new holes and you'll get your "replay" round for only $60.
Course is in Fabulous Condition Thanks to the efficient watering system that we installed at the end of last season the course is in absolutely fabulous condition: the fairways are lush and gorgeous and the greens are faster than ever.
Great Summer Happenings During July & August Our summers are too short for our liking, so we're doing everything we can to help make your golfing experience exceptional at Caledon Club this summer. We've got all kinds of great promotions and events happening over the next six weeks, so be sure to come by and join in the fun.
First Hole-in-One this Season On Saturday, July 19th, Mike Kennedy, from Barrie, Ontario, playing in the John Cadenhead Memorial golf tournament, achieved a hole-in-one on the 16th hole using his 8-iron. It was our first hole-in-one this season! Congratulations Mike!

TIPS FROM THE PRO Putting - The game within a game!
It's often been said that putting is a game within the game of golf, and there seems to be no general consensus as to the best technique for putting.
Choose the technique that's best for you. There are a number of proven methods for putting, but it always makes sense to pay attention to the fundamentals and then adapt from these principles to suit your game.
The essence of putting In it's most simple terms, there are three key elements to sinking your putt: making contact with the ball with the centre of your putter face; ensuring that when you contact the ball you are online with the target; and accelerating the clubhead through impact!
The orthodox approach to putting A basic approach to putting involves placing your hands in a neutral position with the palms facing one another, bending from the waist with your arms and hands hanging down naturally, using a basic pendulum action stroke, controlled by the shoulders (imagine a triangle formed by your arms and shoulders when you address the ball), and maintaining a triangular relationship throughout your stroke, from backswing to follow through!
Controlling your grip One of the major problems when putting is allowing your wrist to break down through impact -- often called the "yips". Sometimes a new grip style is the best solution to this problem. A new grip style can take the problem off your actual stroke and help cure the yips. Consider a grip where you drop your left hand below the right, which locks your wrist into position and prevents any unwanted wrist action. Or consider the Langer grip which was developed by golfer Bernhard Langer to help keep your wrists locked and involves clasping the fingers of your right hand around your left forearm, effectively taking the right hand out of the stroke action.
Stabilize your lower body Great golfers have one thing in common when they putt -- they have an extremely stable lower body and swing the putter from above the waist! Do your utmost to keep your lower body stable through your putt!
Other traps to avoid when putting:
Don't look up too soon! A continuous swing action is essential -- always ensure that your through-swing is exactly the same length as your back swing. Don't overthink your putt -- stick to the fundamentals of your swing and let it work for you!
Practice your short putt! While practicing your long putt is fun, the vast majority of your putts during a game will be from within 15 feet of the hole, so when you're on the practice green, practice, practice and more practice those short putts! Remember that while putting is open to personal interpretation, it's always best to start with the fundamentals!
Yours in golf, Kevin Purcell CPGA Professional

GOLF DICTIONARY: "Yips"
"Yips" is a term used in golf to describe shakiness or nervousness when making a shot. The yips are most commonly associated with putting but can also be evidenced in chipping and full swings.
The Mayo Clinic estimates that 33% to 48% of serious golfers have experienced the yips! |
GOLF ETIQUETTE/RULES: Putting- Don't step in the path of a ball lying on the green -- your foot may make a depression and cause a ball to roll off path.
- When marking your ball on a green, place a coin or marker behind your ball, on the opposite side of the ball as the hole. Rules of Golf also allow you to clean your ball at this time!
- The Rules of Golf say that a ball can not strike a flagstick when it is hit from the green (though it's okay if you've hit the flagstick from a shot off the green).
- Players should remain on or close to the putting green until all other players in the group have holed out.
- Players should not stand on another players putting line and when he is taking his stroke they should stand far enough away so as not to cast a shadow.
- When tending the pin for another golfer stand at least an arms length away, ensuring that you don't cast a shadow, and with your free hand, hold the flag so it doesn't flap in the breeze.
