Welcome to April... We are so close to opening we can smell it in the air, although no official opening date has yet been set. Stay close to your computer as the sunshine performs its magic for us. We will welcome you as soon as we reasonably can!
SURVEY RESULTS ARE IN! The results of our February golf survey have been very valuable, and we thank everyone who submitted their surveys. The winner of our free golf for the month of April is Craig Cadenhead.
Among the many things the survey confirmed for us was that golfers look not just for great golf, but also for a complete positive experience...from great customer service, food and beverage, to great staff.
OUR 2008 LINE-UP! In this newsletter we want to introduce you to some of our key staff members, and remind you that it is our honour and privilege to serve you. Please get to know us during the season, and let us make your golf experience the best it can be!

Congratulations to...
Annette McClelland winner of our Toronto Golf & Travel Show prize package, which includes a two-night stay at the Millcroft Inn & Spa with breakfast & dinner, a $200 spa credit and golf at Caledon Country Club.
Craig Cadenhead is the winner of free golf for the month of April. Craig won the contest simply by completing our February golf survey!

TIPS FROM THE PRO Get to know your golf professional!
As we start the 2008 golf season, don't underestimate the importance of reviewing the basics before you hit the greens.
Even Jack Nicklaus went back to basics It is a well-known fact that even Jack Nicklaus would go back to basics at the start of every season. He'd meet with his swing coach and go back to the fundamentals, reviewing every element of his game as he started his season.
Introduce yourself to your golf professional A relationship with your golf professional should start at the beginning of the season. Introduce yourself, find out what opportunities, clinics, tournaments and demonstrations will be happening throughout the season, and find out how you can take advantage of these. As you get to know your Pro, you will feel comfortable approaching them during the entire season for tips, guidance and advice.
One lesson with a professional can help identify problem areas of your game An initial lesson at the start of the season can help you identify any swing faults or bad habits at the outset of the season. Not surprisingly, fixing one problem often has a positive effect on the rest of your game and can also help fix related problem elements in your game.
CPGA professionals are extensively trained in all aspects of the game Your CPGA professional has been extensively trained in all aspects of the game before they receive their designation. The philosophy of the CPGA is "to provide Canadian golfers with the highest quality professional administrators, teachers, players, and promoters of the game, through superior training, education and member development". Each CPGA professional has had up to 7 years of training, including 3 seasons under the direction of a Head Pro, completion of a playing ability test, completion of a 3-year business or golf management program, completion of a series of CPGA workshops, teaching and coaching certification programs, as well as a minimum of 36 hours of seminars in the areas of club fitting, club repair and the rules of golf.
Let our CPGA trained staff help you improve your game in 2008 Your staff at Caledon are proud of their CPGA designations, and are here to help you throughout the season. Please introduce yourself at the start of the season and let us help you improve your game in 2008.
Yours in golf Kevin Purcell, CPGA Professional |

GOLF ETIQUETTE: Proper Golf Attire
Golf was originally developed as a "gentleman's" game, and as such golf clothing reflects the civilized rules of this gentleman's game. Each golf course may have its own rules and regulations regarding appropriate golf attire, so it's always best to check first.
In most cases, however, golfers and caddies usually abide by an industry standard that includes slacks, a collared shirt and golf shoes for men, and slacks or knee-length skirt or shorts, collared shirt and golf shoes for women. At virtually all courses, prohibited items of attire include short-shorts, swimwear, denim of any type, t-shirts and tank tops.
Did you know... In the 1800 and early 1900s, tartan patterns were the style of the day on the course! Even in the 1970s tartan was held in high esteem (think Caddyshack...) |
GOLF DICTIONARY: "Bump and Run"
A "bump and run" is a chip shot that includes the ball running after it has landed. The ideal "bump and run" is a shot that lands over the fringe, less than a third away from the hole, and then "runs" the rest of the way to the hole. It's ideal to use when it's windy, when there are no bunkers guarding the green, or when the conditions are firm. |
