Getting Ready to Tee-Off
With the golf season only a week or two away, we just can't wait to get started. We have so much planned for the upcoming season, including special promotions and demonstrations with our key golf suppliers, on-site lessons and clinics, and so much more!

Hitting the Trails in 2007
The Toronto Golf & Travel Show gave those who attended a tease for the season ahead and we were delighted to see so many friendly faces at the show. There are some definite trends in golf this year, and it seems much of the buzz is about playing "trails" in the province of Ontario.

We're delighted to be part of the Headwaters Golf Trail again this year, and encourage you to join the Trail for a chance to win some great prizes, including a 2008 Headwaters Golf Trail season pass! If you and your friends are interested in completing the Trail in one fell-swoop, we've partnered with the Millcroft Inn & Spa and the new Best Western Inn & Suites in Orangeville on some great accommodation packages.

As the snow melts from the fairways and greens, we look forward to seeing you at the Club very soon!
Golf Trivia
  • Natural objects which can be easily moved are known as impediments, but natural objects such as trees or bushes are considered hazards and must either be played around or a penalty must be taken.
  • You are the sole judge of whether your ball is unplayable, and it is up to you whether you try to play or accept a penalty.
  • Everyone has a different opinion of golf: Mark Twain referred to golf as a way of spoiling a good walk!
  • The rubber-core golf ball was invented by Coburn Haskell in 1901.
  • A "mashie" was a wooden-shafted, pre- 20th century club, that most resembles today's 5-iron.

New in the Pro Shop - Pick One!
TaylorMade's newest drivers a hit on PGA Tour!

Taylor Made Pick OneIntroduced in February of this year, TaylorMade's two newest drivers, the Burner and the R7 Super Quad are the hottest items on the PGA Tour.
The Burner
The Burner is engineered to promote greater distance through faster speed. With an extra-light grip and a long and light shaft, this 46" club weighs just 299 grams, and expands your swing arc, providing significant boost in distance.

R7 Super Quad
The R7 Super Quad is designed for players who like to assess and calculate before launching the ball. Combining the power and forgiveness of a 460cc club head, the maximum allowed by the USGA, the Super Quad, by incorporating movable weight technology and four weight ports, has the ability to promote changes to the launch angle, spin-rate and trajectory of the ball.

TIPS FROM THE PRO - Getting Your Season Off to a Great Start

Kevin Purcell, CPGA Professional As the snow is all but gone from the fairways, we are definitely close to teeing it up here at Caledon. Many avid golfers have spent time during the off season reading about all of the new equipment they hope will improve their game this year. With rapidly changing technologies such as square drivers and moveable weight ports, hopes are high for longer, straighter drives and lower scores. There is no question the latest technology can help any level of golfer improve their game, but there is another way to lower your score this season.

Before you go out and invest in new equipment, consider stopping by the course and talking to myself or one of the other CPGA Golf Professionals on staff. Often a spring tune up is in order and a small modification to your swing, stance or grip can make a vast improvement to your game. On Wednesday, May 2nd we will be offering a FREE spring tune up clinic beginning at 6:00 pm (pre-registration is required). Throughout the year we also offer a number of group lesson packages, including special clinics for ladies, juniors and men. And we are always available for private instruction when it suits your schedule.

As we all anxiously await the announcement of dates for course openings, use this time wisely so that you're ready to tee-off when the season opens. Go through your golf bag, check your equipment, but most importantly, take some time to make sure YOU are ready for the season. Give us a call at the Pro Shop and come to a spring clinic, or consider the 6-week Golf Fitness Conditioning Course at the state of the art Riverdale Fitness Mill, just down the road from us. We are planning to open on or about the first week of April, so stay posted at www.golfcaledon.com. We will have a free gift for everyone playing on opening weekend!

Cooking with Chef Mike
Chef MikeNo matter how good the golf experience, everyone looks forward to enjoying delicious food before or after their game. Executive Chef Michael Maracle is guaranteed to enhance your day with his culinary expertise. Chef Mike brings with him a youthful enthusiasm and passion for food that is evident in every item that leaves his kitchen!

Formally trained at both George Brown and Humber Culinary Schools, Chef Mike credits his mother and his family background for instilling in him his love for food. Much of his inspiration comes from growing up in Kapuskasing in northern Ontario. Family gatherings occurred often and food was central to the festivities. He began cooking when he was about 11 years old and was often found in the kitchen helping to prepare dishes that were inspired by his French and First Nations background. Mike admits his "must-have" kitchen utensil is his chef's knife and he is as interested in preparing your omelette as he is in your Beef Wellington. Mike has honed his skills as Executive Chef at fine dining establishments, and at banquet facilities preparing meals for hundreds! No matter how fancy the dish he prepares, however, he still goes back to the basics as his starting point, including using good quality ingredients (his favourite seasoning is sea salt), and remembering that any meal you cook should be good enough to satisfy your mother!

We look forward to introducing you to Chef Mike. If you are thinking of hosting a banquet or private party, he'd be delighted to provide you with a "sampling" menu. Otherwise be sure to drop by the restaurant and check out one of his creations on the menu... we're sure you'll enjoy your meal (after all he cooks everything as though he's preparing it for his mother!). Bon appetite!
