Saying Thank You
Last week we moved into our wonderful, bright, new Packing for the Weekend home in the basement of Associated Bank. A team from ProAct was there to help us pack the bags and we are so grateful for their hard work and pleasant attitudes while they work, but sometimes I am so engrossed in thinking about
my to do list for the remainder of the day, that I don't pay enough attention and don't always thank them the way they deserve to be thanked. Last Thursday I was reminded of this in the best possible way.
We had finished packing all 60 packs and the ProAct team was getting into their coats and talking about leaving when one enthusiastic young man held up his hand and asked everyone to WAIT! He then instructed his coworkers to be sure to thank us and in unison they all said "Thank You". It was charming and so kind, but the irony was -they were thanking us for allowing them to volunteer!
I have been thinking about that delightful moment off and on since it happened. It makes me think about all of the wonderful things the United Way of GWP has had to be thankful for in the last week. This is just a short list, I would bore you into getting back to your job and stop reading this if I named them all.
I am thankful for Bonnie, Greg, Joe, John, and all the rest of the wonderful Rotarians in Cannon Falls and all of the guests at their gala last weekend. In one evening they raised enough money to bring Packing for the Weekend to Cannon Falls for the spring semester for 2012.
I am thankful for the fine group of people in Lake City who are working together to bring the program to their elementary school and to the generosity of Cargill's Horizon Milling for caring about children in their community.
I am thankful for all of our Leadership Givers, campaign coordinators and our campaign chairs for coming out last week to our magical event. Most of all I am thankful to Treasure Island and my good friend Tim Gabrielson for a wonderful and entertaining evening.
I am thankful to Liz and Sue at Associated Bank for coming up with the idea, and implementing the plan that gave us our new home at the bank and for the great crew from Red Wing Shoe that volunteered their lunch hour to help us move.
I am thankful for a Board of Directors who are supporting all of us through our transition between directors and my co-workers who have both taken on extra work to make this transition seamless.
Most of all I am thankful to the friends I have made at ProAct and especially for that one exuberant young man who made me stop and think about all of the things I am thankful for.

Red Wingives Give to the Max Day
Last year, more than 42,000 donors logged on to GiveMN.org and gave over $10 million to Minnesota charities in 24 hours during Give to the Max Day. In Red Wing we raised over $150,000 for 34 + organizations--far more than any other community our size! Together, we have the power to raise millions of dollars for thousands of nonprofits.
On November 16th from 8AM-8PM, the YMCA will be open to all community members free of charge. Several nonprofit organizations will staff a table, uniquely decorated to promote their cause. Many organizations will have events and contests to attract participants and encourage you to make donations on November 16. GiveMN's Give to the Max Day amplifies your giving impact in a number of ways. First, a $1,000 "Golden Ticket" will be given to a random donor's charity every hour. You could be that donor! The Jones Family Foundation and Red Wing Area Fund havebeen generous again this year and a match has been set up for Red Wing nonprofit organizations. New this year-$15,000, $10,000 and $5,000 prize grants will be awarded to the top three small nonprofit organizations - with budgets under $750,000 - which receive the most dollars on Give to the Max Day. By giving online with GiveMN, Red Wing residents have the opportunity to make a huge difference for nonprofits in our area. We hope you will help support our community by logging on to www.GiveMN.org on November 16 and giving to your favorite charities. Be a part of this historic Red Wingives event!
