| Community Service Opportunity
Each winter in Sacramento, cold and wet weather conditions threaten the lives of the approximately 1,200 homeless men, women and children sleeping outside. County budget cuts have significantly decreased Winter Shelter funding, creating a crisis. While limited public funding was allocated to serve homeless families, homeless single adults were left with very few options. Without a warm, dry, safe place to sleep in the winter, people who are homeless are at an even greater risk of illness, injuries and death.
Winter Sanctuary began operating in 2010. This program involved the City of Sacramento and the participation of 24 different interfaith congregations throughout the Sacramento area. Each night, a scheduled congregation would open its doors to up to 100 homeless individuals. Guests receive a sleeping bag and then were bused to and from the staging area, which was a warehouse at the Loaves & Fishes complex. Volunteers of America provided overnight staff for each evening.
Here's How You And Your Family Can Help:
If you would like to get involved, Arcade Church will be hosting this event Sunday, February 26th until Saturday, March 3rd. All you need to do is show up at the Fellowship Hall at Arcade Church between 5:00pm and 8:00pm. Volunteers are needed to help serve dinner, play games, and just hang out with people. It is a family friendly event and children are able to volunteer with their family.
For more information, please check out the Arcade Church website (www.arcadechurchonline.com). |

Tennis Rules and Etiquette
To help the tennis players at Del Norte, please feel free to email Arnie at renodun@hotmail.com with any questions regarding tennis rules or etiquette. He will try to accurately answer all questions posed to help educate us in becoming fair and just tennis players.
Players at Del Norte ask THIS question since the light poles are so close to the courts. Here is the answer regarding a ball hitting the light poles. The light poles are considered a Permanent Fixture under this rule:
Permanent Fixtures:
The permanent fixtures of the court include the backstops and sidestops, the spectators, the stands and seats for spectators, all other fixtures around and above the court, the Chair Umpire, Line Umpires, Net Umpires and ball persons when in their recognized positions. In a singles match played with a doubles net and singles sticks, the net posts and the part of the net outside the singles sticks are permanent fixtures and are not considered as net posts or part of the net.
When a ball touches a Permanent Fixture: If the ball in play touches a permanent fixture after it has hit the correct court, the player who hit the ball wins the point. If the ball in play touches a permanent fixture before it hits the ground, the player who hit the ball loses the point. TO RECAP, IF YOU HIT THE LIGHT POLE WITH YOUR SHOT, YOU LOSE THE POINT!

What Can Exercise Do For My Brain?
Did you know your brain is incredibly dynamic? It can change its structure and function by adding new neurons, making new connections between neurons and even create brand-new blood vessels, all in response to EXERCISE. Exercise improves cognitive function; if you sit at a desk or on your couch too much your brain turns off...get up, get moving, try BodyVive! Exercise changes brain function; turn your vegetative brain cells on with BodyPump or BodyAttack! Exercise changes brain structure; the structure being gray matter and white matter. Increases in your gray matter AND your white matter occur when you try new things - try Yoga and/or Pilates to pump up your brain volume! Learn how to swim or play tennis! |
