It's Back to School - Back to Business and this year Back to Increasing Sales. The catch is, you have new teachers - your clients!
Business will not be business as usual. Your clients are being very careful how they spend their money and justifying every dollar they spend. As salespeople and businesses, we have to work that much harder to earn our client's business - and an 'A'.
My brother Mark is a Vice Principal and we were discussing the similarities in the education expectations and client expectations. Mark said, "To earn an 'A' in today's school system - you have to apply a higher level of thinking skills, demonstrate problem solving skills and apply the theory and learning to real world examples. Students can no longer study and regurgitate the theory to earn an 'A'. Students have to prove they have earned the grade with exemplary work." In today's selling world, client expectations are much higher. Clients are more knowledgeable, sophisticated and demanding too - just like today's teachers! To earn your client's business- you just can't regurgitate your typical selling presentation, you have to apply a higher level of thinking and business acumen skills, demonstrate problem solving skills by presenting solutions to your client's business. A sell and tell presentation will no longer earn you the business or an 'A' on your sales report card. You have to prove you have earned an 'A' with exemplary value.
