**Spoken Soul 215**

GUESS WHO CAME OUT IN THE RAIN?!
harvest chillin'
So the story goes like this: it's a rainy April night, I mean it's raining calico kitties and pomeranian puppies right? And the Spoken Soul 215 Collective is rushing through Center City traffic to one of the funnest (yeah it's a word over here!) open mics in the city. And no one is saying it out loud but everyone's thinking it: "Lawd you KNOW Philadelphians don't like the rain!" So one by one we make our way to the spot (MarBar at 10th and Walnut) and I be damned if WE couldn't even get a seat in the spot!

You all came out in the rain?! You all are officially THE BEST crowd ever! So the weatherman is talking wet stuff again this Wednesday but who the heezy cares?! It's called an umbrella and a good time! Get one at Target and get the other at Marathon's stairway to heaven: MarBar at 10th and Walnut. Folks there at 7pm get first dibs on the open bar and FREE appetizers!

Last month we were fortunate enough to witness some of Philly's own youth from HBO's new series Brave New Voices! Oh--my--gawd these kids use words like ya' grandmom uses an iron skillet! With skill and precision, cookin' up the good stuff (and using that month old grease...but I digress!) So if you are like me and don't have cable click HERE and catch the heezy up!! The next generation is bringing the movement! (P.S. when you buy a ticket, we donate to the youth movement!).

The Harvest is Reaping What Has Been Sown...
EXTRA SPECIAL THANKS TO BUJE CONCEPTS MARKETING & SKYY VODKA SPONSORS who help us plant the seeds of art, change and progress!
Whatchu Say?!
We could tell you ourselves...but it works so much better when we let the crowd tell it!...
Your daddy was wrong! Follow the crowd!!
Ask random questions at The Harvest and you get wonderful truths in return..."Tonite was my 1st Harvest event...Amazing hidden talents, crazy youth and incredible energy. I loved it!" They say you always remember your first...sigh [enter harps and flowers and bunnies and hearts here].

Is it just me or are people more honest when the feedback is anonymous? They'll tell you all kinds of things like:
"The poets were all very talented and moving. Excellent event & participation. Three thumbs up!" Three thumbs huh?...well we'll take all that love and er...uh take up collections for getting that "third thumb" removed...but in the meantime keep the kudos coming!

Something ever been sooo good to you that it makes you curse and speak broken English? (While you think about that question)...one Harvest guest says about the featured youth poets that night: "Dayum dem kids! We need a professor to break down the concepts presented by dem youngsters!" Fo-sholizzle! We'll have Harvest dictionaries on hand and pens and paper to take note: The Harvest is THE place to be! Write that down!

And the #1 way you all said you heard about The Harvest..."From a friend." What?! Well then get on the phone, get your tweet on, facebook it, myspace them to the Planet Harvest! Do what you gotta do to help us do what we love to do! Host a fly spot for YOU!

We even took your feedback about making things better! Mics...check!... DJ on the ones and twos but not while people are performing lol...check! More seating...check!...Oh and...
The mic is wide open!
First twelve on the open mic list are GUARANTEED to perform and we draw numbers to get the most random (but wonderful) artists on stage to perform! So all is fair in love and The Harvest...just one more reason (besides free drink and food) to get there early!

THE HARVEST
If it is true that we reap what we sow, then let us sow seeds of justice, of righteousness, let us plant our dreams in fields of our ancestors, water them with sweet hymns, give them the light of our intention and the oxygen of our prayers.

Let us be Harvesters of our potential, of our brother's and sister's creative longings. Let us bring forth who we are, and hunger no more.
