Writer Blocks that will keep you in-the-know about Philly's creative arts scene, and my new section called Underground Soul. Oh! and don't forget to check out my BLOG this month too! Got all that? Whew!

Oh...I almost forgot...giveaways! Yaay! So February is Black History Month and the giveaway for this month includes a prize fitting for the occasion. Read more in the update for details on how you can win FREE stuff!

PENNIE FOR YOUR THOUGHTS...
Our monthly column from author Pennie Murray with motivational tidbits we can use!
RhapsatMoodsMusicThe history of this country has seen world change through many lenses-many times. Our present presidential race is evident of another world change. Ted Kennedy put it this way, "The world is changing. The old ways will not do. It's time for a new generation of leadership-one that will turn the pages on the old misrepresentation and distortion..." [read more]

UNDERGROUND SOUL

This is the way to the Underground where creative souls pour regular cups of creativity at their local venues, and messages are sent by code from city to city. You may have to listen/look close to catch them, but they're here, and they're making their mark.

NEWS YOU CAN USE!
"His design for the future"
Subliminal (Toronto)
article by Ben Kaplan, National Post

subliminal

"I think the real black focus needs to be within our own community; parents have to be parents," says Subliminal, the Toronto-based actor, rapper, architect and founder of the P.U.L.L. Project, a literacy workshop he teaches in schools using hip hop to target his positive message. "You can create all the schools you want, but if you have parents that aren't disciplining their 14-year-old children, black schools aren't going to work." [read more]

WRITER BLOCKS NEWSPAPER (PHILLY)

RhapsatMoodsMusicPeople send me emails asking: "Where can I go to get on the mic in Philly?" And each time I rattle off some places I know, but I ALWAYS end up finally saying: "Just go to the Writer Blocks website." Fellow poet and friend Traycee Lynn has provided a jewel to the Philadelphia community as editor of an online/print arts news magazine. She has done great interviews with artists such as Common, Floetry, Saul Williams, Kevin Liles and other up-and-coming acts. Writer Blocks includes the voices of folks within the creative arts community who write articles and columns to submit to the newspaper (note: so can you! check out submission info on the website!). This is no "bootleg" effort! When I moved to Philly it was my source of creative news and even introduced me to a fun and thought-provoking online chat community who discussed topics of interests. Even the single "How Come" by the Philly Spoken Soul Collective grew out of discussions on the WB message boards! So for folks who want creative arts news you can use, and who want to know more about the Philly arts scene, pick up a newspaper copy and/or go online to check out the good stuff! (click on photo for more info).
