rhaps picHello everyone!

So forgive me...but I'm sure you'll enjoy this month's Pennie for your Thoughts and the good stuff I found while out and about this month in the Rhap Tested, Rhaps Approved section! You don't want to miss my podcast: The Feel Good Flow airing today on 4DaSoul Radio!

Oh! And coming soon (as in this weekend) to my BLOG is an update on what's been going on with me in the past month, including how my show at SOB's with Eric Roberson went (hint: wooo hoo!) and life in general.

In the meantime enjoy and pass it on!

Pennie for your thoughts...

A monthly column with our 2 cents on a matter! Featuring author and inspirational speaker Pennie Murray.

Haroldson Hunt said, "Decide what you want; decide what you are willing to exchange for it. Then set your priorities and go to work." I have found that the greatest challenge is in deciding what you really want, and the greatest hurdle is the willingness to let go of certain people, places and things to get what we want.

Many refuse to decide because it makes us responsible to do something; and that responsibility brings with it the possibility of failure. Unfortunately, we have been taught to see failure as a character flaw, instead of the teacher it really is. Deciding also brings with it the exposure of our fragility-our vulnerabilities. We resist letting go because they serve as scapegoat to our "I can't because---"

Know that failure is the only true key to solid success. And when we can become completely honest with ourselves about our fears and incompetence the universe comes alongside to make us strong. Then our problem is not in letting go-but being overwhelmed with giving back!

rhaps at SOBsBig Thank You to Eric Roberson, SOB's, Burrell and Thysha for making my performance there possible! Rocking with the band, grooving to the music and meeting NYC in the best way possible!

Big up to Vodka (the person not the drink!) for taping the show at SOB's!!coming soon to Youtube!. oh! and to RJ Writer for taking the memorable pic!

massarts bostonStef, Life, Bernard Collins and I had a great time at MassArts in Boston talking art, diversity and personal responsibility! Make art - make change.

Myself, Lyrispect and Zen Aura came together for a Master Griot performance "Born Eminent" for a great affair by the International Caucus of Women of the African Diaspora honoring African American trailblazers. Talk about inspiration seeing women who are running colleges and universities and doing it with a beautiful glow!

Spoke.....in......words

thoughts - definitions - poetry.....all things spoke in words....
THOUGHT:

I often get comments and messages from folks who have heard my poetry and music and comment about how they were inspired by what I do, say, sing, speak...but then they admit of not having the same courage to share their own work.

So to the closet writer, the secret poet, the undercover singer...I say to you...please let your voice and words be heard...just as my words inspire you, and someone else's words inspired me, so can you for some unknown, but very needy listener...

When we share our gifts we realize we are not alone in our experience or emotion, and that we too have the ability to heal...ourselves and many others through our display of vulnerbility and courage.

YOU SAID IT!

(and I thank you...)

"Your words should be heard universally on the airwaves. Make it happen and we will be waiting!!!"

RHAPS TESTED - RHAPS APPROVED

I tried it, I liked it...and now I'm telling you about it! ENJOY!

Wattstax on video!

wattstaxThis month Stef Renee and I took some time to have a social sit-down with the new bright and talented students we work with for the teen talk show (now called Genisus: Revitalizing Teen Talk). To help bring light and context to their debut topic on the state of popular music, Stef popped in Wattstax. I don't know whether it was the funky outfits I wish I had, or the completely memorable music by 60's music icons or the candid interviews dispersed in between. But whatever it was, I'm telling you it's a film worth watching, laughing, (reminiscing for some) and singing along to! Oh and while you're at it, you'll probably want to grab the soundtrack too!
Al B. on WURD!
al b on the radioI must be a grown up now...all the bills have my name on them, I give myself an allowance and I listen to talk radio! Look I don't watch the news (too depressing and sensational), I'm allergic to the ink in newspaper and so I'm forced to rely on my fave online news sources and local friend and radio host Al Butler who brings youthfulness and smarts to the talk radio scene on 900AM WURD weekdays 4pm - 7pm! Listen locally or worldwide at www.900amwurd.com. Feel free to call in and get involved with the fun show themes and thought-provoking conversation! (click on his pic to go to his myspace page).
