Countdown to the Waterfowl Festival The 37th annual Waterfowl Festival is just a few short days away! |
|
|
It's time to make your plans for this weekend, and we certainly hope you include the Waterfowl Festival in those plans. We also hope you've enjoyed receiving these messages from us for the past 6 weeks, highlighting some of the exhibits, events, and people you won't want to miss! This week we'd like to tell you a little more about our popular Wine Tasting Pavilion, the Waterfowling Artifacts Museum featuring the Living Legends carvers, and the growing Photography Gallery.
Also, we have two late-breaking events that you may enjoy learning about before you arrive in Easton: Skyhunters in Flight, a great interactive show with falcons, hawks, and owls, and two Ward Brothers decoys that have been consigned to the Decoy Auction - more information is below. |

Wine Tasting Pavilion |
| |
 |
The Waterfowl Festival's Wine Tasting Pavilion debuted in 2005 and is fast becoming one of the event's must-visit venues. A growing number of vineyards are being planted on the Eastern Shore. Ten Maryland wineries will be present at this year's event, including Little Ashby Vineyards and St. Michaels Winery, both located in Talbot County.
Other small business vendors will be featured offering items complementing the wines. Among them, Chapel's Country Creamery will be on hand with a variety of cheeses made at its family farm in Easton. Salter's Chesapeake Gourmet will offer gourment salad dressings and sauces from Mark Salter, executive chef at the Inn at Perry Cabin in St. Michaels.
The Wine Tasting Pavilion is located across the street from the Armory Building, the Festival's headquarters, on South Harrison Street and will be open all three days of the Festival starting at 11:00 a.m. each day.

Living Legends and Waterfowling Artifacts |
| |
 |
Grayson Chessar, left and Oliver "Tutsy" Lawson are two of the master carver Living Legends scheduled to appear at the Waterfowling Artifacts Museum at this year's Festival. They will get together on Saturday, Nov. 10 from Noon to 2:00 p.m. to meet their fans and sign autographs. Also waiting to greet you will be legends Charlie Bryan, Cigar Daisey, Capt. Harry Jobes, Charlie "Speed" Joiner Jr., Jim Pierce, and Capt. Pete Richardson, who will turn 105 years old.
Visitors need not be collectors to appreciate the history and heritage that is represented at this special Festival venue, both in the Artifacts and the Legends. The Artifacts Museum will be open all three days and is located in the Easton High School cafeteria. |

Photography - Home of the "Big Shots" |
| |
 |
It's at the Waterfowl Festival's Photography Exhibit at the Historical Society that visitors can see what all those "big shots" are about - at left, photographer Skip Willits' image is aptly titled "It's All in the Eyes."
From Chris Vigneri's vivid desert portraits to Pat Vojtech's maritime scenes to Barry Hollritt's striking white swans, these artists capture the images the rest of us can only dream about. All three of these master photographers will return to the Festival this year, along with two of the longest running veterans of the exhibit, Joan Richards and Skip Willits. New to the event this year will be the local Tidewater Camera Club whose booth will feature work from a number of its local member artists.
A new sales area called "Shutterbug Stocking Stuffers" will appeal to the budget-minded shopper as it will offer photo-related items perfect for those holiday gifts including note cards, small photos and calendars. While guests will require a Waterfowl Festival ticket or badge to enter the Photography Exhibit upstairs, even casual passersby are welcome to stop in downstairs and shop. Making the trip upstairs though is well worth the effort. The artwork presented is exceptional and affordable, and the artists are always willing to offer advice on how they got those "big shots." |

New Addition - Skyhunters in Flight |
| |
 |
Skyhunters in Flight means a Saturday delight as falcons, owls, and hawks take to the air in an interactive show at the Easton Elementary School.
On Saturday, Nov. 10 at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. watch these majestic birds dive, swoop and claim the sky as their own.
A definite "don't-miss!" |
 |
Ward Brothers Decoys |
| |
 |
At the Decoy Auction on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 2:00 p.m. at the Easton High School, two Ward Brothers decoys will be available.
One is a Decorative Mallard Drake, original paint, signed and dated by the maker in 1961, and the second decoy consigned to the auction is a Decorative Mallard Hen described as a fine decoy in the rare preening position with raised, carved wings, also original paint and dated 1961.
They will both be sold subject to a reserve.
