The Robert Klein Gallery will number among more than 70 of the world's leading fine art photography galleries presenting a wide range of museum-quality work including contemporary, modern and 19th century photographs, as well as photo-based art, video, and new media. The Gallery will be exhibiting works by Irving Penn, Brassai, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Francesca Woodman, Alex Webb, Cig Harvey, Arno Rafael Minkkinen, Paulette Tavormina, and Gregory Vershbow, among many others. KAWA = FLOW
MASAO YAMAMOTO on exhibit March 19 - April 30
 MASAO YAMAMOTO, Kawa=Flow 1554, 2008.
With our Fall and Winter exhibitions, Paulette Tavormina explored the opulence of still-life while Cig Harvey revealed the vibrancy of single subject portraiture. This Spring, Masao Yamamoto will unpack the complexity of black-and-white photography.
When Yamamoto talks about kawa, a Japanese word that means "flow" or "river," he is referencing "the world where we are and the world where we go in the future." Kawa is, according to Yamamoto's website, not a geographical border but a sentimental divide.
In his new works, Yamamoto captures moments in movement. Drawing on the natural world for inspiration, this series of photographs creates an arena for meditation without heavy-handed visual symbolism. Yamamoto shows us that beauty is much simpler.

Two large scale murals by ARNO RAFAEL MINKKINEN installed at the new Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las Vegas
When The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas opened recently, it asserted itself as a destination for art appreciation -- a place where valuable contemporary art could be displayed in the luxurious setting of a world-class hotel. Arno Rafael Minkkinen's From The Shelton Looking East, New York, 2005 (below), was selected to be featured in one of The Cosmopolitan's conference areas. This large-scale photograph will also be part of the Robert Klein Gallery booth at the AIPAD Photography Show.  In the 1930's, the views from the Shelton Tower (now a hotel) inspired resident Alfred Stieglitz and his wife, Georgia O'Keeffe. In homage, Minkkinen rented the room below their apartment and made this self-portrait. The original view painted by O'Keeffe had been obscured by recent buildings, so Minkkinen tried to move them aside. Minkkinen was the winner of the 2010 Finnish Film Foundation Screenplay Grant for his feature-length film, The Rain House. He will be touring and lecturing extensively in 2011, visiting Norway, Italy, and Latvia.
