A Year in Review of 2009
A Look into 2010

In 2009, the Entertainment Industries Council, Inc. (EIC) expanded its resource capability for the creative community by broadening our health and social issue topic areas. EIC implemented new, innovative projects to more closely involve national cable networks, local TV stations, social networks and news media.

We would like to share the year's accomplishments with you, as well as give you a peek into what EIC is bringing you in 2010!

Capitol Hill Showcase

The Entertainment Industries Council, Inc. (EIC) annually presents, in collaboration with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), FX Network, and News Corporation, the PRISM Awards™, a nationally-televised magazine formatted show recognizing the accurate depiction of drug, alcohol and tobacco use and addiction and mental health in film, television, interactive, music, DVD, and comic book entertainment. Established in 1997, the PRISM Awards honor productions that are not only powerfully entertaining, but realistically show substance abuse and addiction, as well as mental health issues.

EIC's Picture This program creates the opportunity for members of the health and social fields to condense and contextualize the key issues in their areas of expertise. The program channels the experts' information and transports it to the entertainment industry in an effort to inspire stories that could lead to social change.

Picture This: National Forums: EIC's program model brings national leading experts and media professionals together to bridge the gap between advocates and communicators.

Women's HealthTopic areas covered by Picture This in 2009 were National Forums - Women's Health and Foster Care.

EIC, in collaboration with the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Foundation hosted A Picture This: Women's Health Forum at National Association of Broadcasters headquarters in Washington D.C. Take a look at the top concerns affecting women today as well as read about story ideas, depiction suggestions, myths and facts and much more!

Picture This: Local Approach: EIC has developed a model to collaborate with Congressional Representatives, local TV stations and stakeholders to bring greater understanding of the topic priorities to the public, to ultimately enhance collaboration between the community-based organization and local media.

EIC's Entertainment Briefings:

EIC's entertainment briefings are an opportunity to present accurate information and voice real stories to out industry. These meetings are held at television and/or studio lots for the convenience of the creative community to obtain accurate information. The briefings provide information to the writers which include: major concerns, challenges, appropriate terminology, myth/reality statements, and personal stories. This gives the entertainment community a resource to gain accurate content material to use on screen, or during the writing process.

(EIC) Entertainment & Media Communication Institute (EMCI) is partnering with the End Hunger Network to educate and change society about food insecurity and hunger issues that are affecting our nation, especially our children, through entertainment and news media to act as flag bearers about this critical message!
ECMI

EMCI, a division of EIC, promotes collaborations among diverse disciplines, experts, and various audiences. EMCI creates effective communication strategies relative to positioning health promotion campaigns, social marketing strategies, risk communication research and informatics' applications within the broader media space.
