Email from our Readers
Brandon Carson, Chief Instructional Designer at Sun Microsystems, shared his thoughts after reading the book for the first time.
"In The Secret Life of the Corporate Jester Dave Riveness weaves a cohesive and compelling argument for instigating new leadership techniques in corporate America.
In my organization, both new and experienced managers are faced with a multitude of challenges, especially when it comes to integrating different demographics. I found "The Secret Life of the Corporate Jester" full of refreshing ideas and new perspectives in the area of communication, leadership, motivation, and fostering "out of the box" thinking.
One of the most powerful takeaways for me as a manager and leader of "creative types" was gaining an understanding of how important it is to "uncover my own leadership blind spots".
I recommend The Secret Life of the Corporate Jester to both new and experienced managers. I guarantee you will come away with at least 5 ideas you can put to work right away to help increase your team's effectiveness!"
Thanks for sharing your feedback with us Brandon, we are truly happy you enjoyed the book! |

These past couple months have included a whirlwind of travel for Corporate Jester. Dave's schedule alone has included Mexico, Canada, Dubai, Bulgaria, Moscow, and Abu Dhabi. With international travel top of mind we thought we would share some sites we use when preparing to jet overseas.
While it feels a little cluttered, we love all the information found on Executive Planet, a website providing valuable tips on business etiquette, customs and protocol for doing business worldwide. To visit the site, click here.
The Babel fish is small, yellow, leech-like, and probably the oddest thing in the Universe. If you stick one in your ear, you instantly understand anything said to you in any language. (Extra points if you email us and tell us where this reference comes from!)
An online version of the Babel Fish is actually available as a web-based application on Yahoo.com that machine translates text or web pages from one of several languages into another. It isn't perfect but it works pretty well in a pinch. To visit Babel Fish, click here.
We also installed a couple of translation "bots" in our version of Google Talk that work pretty well - we actually had a conversation with someone who didn't know a word of English! Setting it up is a little difficult but if we can do it you can too! To find out more, start by clicking here. |

- We recently posed a question on using our Linkedin.com profile asking other members to recommend books they think should be on every leader's bookshelf. To check out the books they suggested click here.
- A reader recently sent us the following Mark Twain quote thinking it perfectly illustrates the need for jesters in organizations: "What gets us into trouble is not what we don't know. It's what we know for sure that just ain't so." We agree!
- As many of you know, Corporate Jester loves to share the insights and philosophy found in the book through our keynotes and workshops. If your organization has a meeting or conference coming up, we would like to talk to you about the value of including us in the agenda. To connect with us just click here. | |
One quick request from the editorial team. Each month we try to put together a newsletter that is fun, informative and has a little something for everyone. How are we doing?
Could you take a moment to drop us a line to tell us what you have enjoyed most in past editions? What would you like to see more of? We want to continue to bring you a newsletter you look forward to opening each month!
Thanks for being a part of Corporate Jester.
Sincerely,
