This month's email comes from Ed, an employee at a large, well known aerospace company we were asked not to name.

"I found your book to be encouraging.  I work for a company that seems to have forgotten success comes on the heels of people supporting each other.

Here, everyone works in silos and actually delights in the failures of others outside of their immediate work group.

I suspect it is all based in fear and wish we could move to a culture like the one you describe in your book.  We would not only be more successful as a company but I would be a lot happier about coming to work!

I have recently given copies of your book to a couple other folks that feel the same as I do and the concept of Jestership seems to be slowly spreading - who knows, maybe things are on the verge of changing!"

-  Ed

We got an update from our friends at JetBlue we just have to share (as we are bursting with pride).

About a year ago Dave gave a Corporate Jester workshop as a JetBlue Leadership Development Program for which we received some pretty wonderful immediate feedback.  The story doesn't end there as JetBlue recently decided to survey the participants again long after the session to see what kind of retention and ROI they could document almost a year after the workshop occurred.

The results make us smile - 100% percent of the respondents answered with some level of "agree" to the statement "I have been able to apply the knowledge and skills learned during the event to my job".

Even more heartening to us were the free response quotes from JetBlue Crewmembers sharing how they applied learnings from that day to their work over the past year.  Perhaps our favorite quote of all is:

"Dave is a great presenter and speaker - the meeting was informational, interactive and fun and provided tactical direction for implementing the concepts presented.  It really meshed well with the JetBlue values and culture".

We are thrilled our time with JetBlue Airways created long lasting impact and look forward to working with them again.  For more information about our work with JetBlue, or to discuss how we can bring a similar impact to your organization, please contact us.

If you have been keeping up with past newsletters, you know about TED.   In perfect alignment with Corporate Jester philosophy, TED believes in the power of spoken thoughts and ideas in changing attitudes and lives.  We love TED and enjoy supporting the things they do.

Wherever you will be on Saturday, May 10, we invite you to join others around the world for a powerful, first-of-its kind TED experience.  Gathered in homes, movie theaters and larger venues, people will participate in a remarkable program of films and talks celebrating life. If you think of yourself as something of a global soul, it could be one of the year's highlights.

Here's the scoop:

 - Out of thousands of submissions, TED has assembled a fantastic line-up of films. There are about 20 in total, ranging in length from 2 to 15 minutes (most of them around 5). They all tell powerful stories, often without language, of what it is to be human. They are funny, touching, dramatic, and inspiring.

- The whole program is being broadcast in front of a live audience of 1,000 (from more than 50 countries) in Los Angeles, but locations in Cairo, Kigali, London, Mumbai, and Rio de Janeiro will be linked for the powerful program of films, music, and visionary speakers. The entire event will be broadcast - in seven languages - to millions of people worldwide through the Internet, television, and mobile phones.

Employees do not believe their organizations or their senior management are doing enough to help them become fully engaged and contribute to their companies' success, according to a new global workforce study conducted by Towers Perrin, a global professional services firm.

Just 21% of the employees surveyed around the world are engaged in their work, meaning they're willing to go the extra mile to help their companies succeed. Fully 38% are partly to fully disengaged.

Turning people's energy and ambition into engagement - and ultimately into significant performance lift for the organization - demands attention, focus and some very different behaviors from senior leaders. The challenge for senior management is to recognize the value of employees' untapped potential and to channel it in ways that yield real improvements in business performance.

As you might suspect, leaders will find a much easier time meeting this challenge if they have created and maintained a culture of Jestership in their organizations - one in which truthtelling in encouraged and the examination of blind spots in thinking and action is commonplace.
