Putting the Pieces Together: Being Called a Jester is Something to be Proud of!
Have you stepped further into the role of a Jester? Is the book making a difference in your organization? We want to hear from you!
This month's short comment comes from Claudine, the head of a training company in the UK.
"Your book was recommended by a customer who saw us in a jester role.
We were a little offended at first - until I tracked down your book!
Now we are proud to be seen as Jesters!"
Thanks for your email Claudine. We look forward to hearing more about how you and the rest of your company are acting as Jesters for your clients! | |

Corporate Jester Loves TED |
We enjoy sharing our thoughts about Jestership with organizations around the world. We believe that Jestership, leveraged, can provide a healthier culture and increase results in your organization. We recently found a kindred spirit in TED and want to share what we discovered with you.
TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from those three worlds. Since then its scope has become ever broader. Their annual conference now brings together the world's most fascinating thinkers and doers (such as Al Gore, Jane Goodall and Brian Greene), who are challenged to give the talk of their lives (in 18 minutes). In perfect alignment with Corporate Jester philosophy, TED believes in the power of spoken thoughts and ideas in changing attitudes, lives and ultimately, the world. Their website, launched April 2007, is an ever-evolving work in progress, and we think it is pretty special.
At the site TED offers the best talks and performances available for free. Almost 200 talks from their archive are now available, with more added each week. These videos are released under a Creative Commons license, so they can be freely shared and reposted.
We really have come to love TED and think you might too. Click on some of the links below and find out for yourself!

Preparing Workforces for the Future - Jesters Needed |
|
This month, Chief Learning Officer (CLO) Magazine shared some interesting workplace statistics including a study that concluded 94% of human resources professionals do not feel their personal are adequately prepared to meet their companies' future goals!
Softscape, a provider of Web-based human capital management software, surveyed more than 250 human resources professionals from around the world, with the distribution of respondents spread almost evenly across a variety of industries and among small, midsize and large organizations. Participants were asked numerous questions about their workforce skill readiness, perceived process deficiencies, business drivers for integrating human capital management processes and key initiatives being undertaken to ensure staff preparedness.
Other key findings from the report include
● Individual roles are becoming more multifunctional and are requiring ongoing skill development and real-time learning and collaboration. ● Whether they are expanding or downsizing, companies are seeking to leverage centralized shared services to support global initiatives. ● As the more tactical HR functions are commoditized, strategic human resources functions are becoming further integrated and outsourced. ● Changing workforce demographics are forcing organizations to deploy new approaches to how they plan, hire, develop and retain their staffs.
Although this report is a little scary, we like it as it points to the continuing need for Jesters in the workplace as people struggle to learn how to work together to achieve great results.

Worldmate Live |

Sometimes we worry about Dave's relationship with his blackberry - with his travel schedule, it might be becoming his best friend. With that in mind, anything that makes his blackberrry easier to use is automatically a hit in our eyes! We recently turned him on to WorldMate Live and he loves it.
WorldMate Live is a mobile travel service that acts as a personal travel assistant by automatically delivering content and services to your mobile device. It hosts "push" context-aware features such as flight alerts, flight notifications and meeting notifications. It also features flight schedules, car rentals, maps, world clocks and a currency converter offered to you on the fly.
WorldMate Live allows you to piece together your travel itinerary details (including flight, hotel, car rental and meeting information) creating a complete integrated schedule available for immediate inspection on your blackberry screen. We like feeling organized!
Finally, to cap it off, the basic subscription to WorldMate Live is completely free!
We give Worldmate Live a big thumbs up and know Dave is planning to continue to use it while on the road!
