Putting the Pieces Together: Blind Spots in the Sales Process
Have you stepped further into the role of a Jester? Is the book making a difference in your organization? We want to hear from you!
This month's comment comes from Steve, the head of regional sales for a large service organization.
"Although the idea of Jestership is critical in understanding how teams should behave towards each other, that isn't why I purchased copies for my sales team."
"I found that the ideas in the book directly apply to sales concepts I want my team keeping front of mind. I believe many sales opportunities are lost because salespeople are not actively searching for blind spots - in their presentations, in their understanding of customer needs or in their perception of expectations."
"Your book will help us get better, both as individuals and as a team, in uncovering and addressing those issues."
Thanks for your email Steve! | |

Greetings!
Welcome to the January '08 issue of The Muse! The Center for Creative Leadership - A Great Resource |
|
The Center for Creative Leadership was founded in 1970 with a mission to advance the understanding, practice and development of leadership for the benefit of society worldwide.
In keeping with that spirit, they offer a fantastic website hosting a wealth of information about leadership, ranging from research findings to practical information for managers and executives in their free, monthly e-newsletter, Leading Effectively.
What does CCL mean by the term creative leadership? They believe it is the capacity to think and act beyond the boundaries that limit our effectiveness. Every leader and organization faces obstacles that are difficult to surmount - from corporate executives confronting the complex global marketplace to educators trying to lift student achievement to nonprofit groups and government agencies addressing critical social issues with tight budgets. We love the phrase and think it aligns quite well with our concept of Jestership!

Jestership at L3 Communications |
We love to share our thoughts about Jestership with organizations around the world. We believe that Jestership, leveraged, can provide a healthier culture and increase results in YOUR organization.
Corporate Jester recently spoke at an offsite meeting for L3 Communications - the sixth largest defense company in the United States and a leader and prime defense contractor in Intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, secure communications, and government services.
The keynote was fun, interactive and relevant to current challenges facing L3. Participants responded with comments such as: "Possibly the best senior management offsite I have attended".

Luck vs. Jestership |
Recently, in the MIT Sloan Management Review, Kurt Matzler (Professor and Chair of the Department of International Management at the Johannes Kepler University of Linz/Austria), was quoted as saying: "senior executives appear to possess the ability to be lucky".
Explaining further, he defined "luck" as "the ability to exploit chance situations . . . to detect weak signals that others don't see and recognize patterns before others can".
That sounds to us exactly like a Jester's ability to discern and illuminate blind spots! To learn more about blind spots - and to tease out one of your own - click here.
