Putting the Pieces Together: Creating a True Sales Team
Have you stepped further into the role of a Jester? Is the book making a difference in your organization? We want to hear from you!
This month's comment comes from Mark, National Sales Director for a pharmaceutical company.
"After reading the book I decided I would buy copies for my entire sales team as it does a great job in explaining how I view teamwork in a matrix sales organization.
I try to lead my department not only as a collection of individuals with specific goals and milestones, but also as a larger team with group goals and milestones. Understanding of the importance of both accountabilities is critical for a well functioning team.
Leveraging the concept of Jestership allows me to underline the responsibility each individual has to each other. If I can get each person to take on accountability for illuminating blind spots for others on their team, as well as to value the same from their teammates, I know we will move much faster towards becoming a true world class sales team not just a collection of independent individuals focused only on their own sales numbers."
Thanks for your email Mark! We do appreciate it when our readers share success stories.
(Next time, however, let us know before you make a large book purchase. We will arrange for a multi-copy discount directly from the publisher and pass the savings on to you!)

Greetings!
Welcome to the October issue of The Muse! This newsletter is intended to keep you connected to Corporate Jester as part of our commitment to help individuals and organizations create maximum results leveraging the concepts and philosophy from the book The Secret Life of the Corporate Jester: A Fresh Perspective on Organizational Leadership, Culture and Behavior.
This month we mourn the loss of a favorite magazine (but give away a subscription to another), share info about the National Speakers Association, give you a chance to impact international small businesses and give Dave a hoodie! |
|
National Speakers Association |
The National Speakers Association is a great resource for those working for and with organizations. As the leading educational and networking organization for the professional speaker, NSA is a national not-for-profit association with thousands of members across the United States and chapters in every major market and sister organizations across the globe.
Among other things, NSA is a good reference for anyone needing information about professional speakers and speaking. Besides providing a nice speaker's directory (you can locate Corporate Jester by clicking here) NSA has created standard professional competencies for those in the speaking profession. If you are in the market for a keynote speaker for a meeting or conference, we, of course, prefer you chat with us first, but otherwise, use NSA to filter for quality. You can view the NSA professional competencies here. |

Magazine Roundup! |
|
Sad news in the magazine world this month. Our favorite magazine, Business 2.0, is closing up shop. We are surprised and disappointed as we thought the magazine was consistently well written with timely and insightful stories. You can click here to read the New York Times article about the closing of the magazine. We will miss you Business 2.0!
In other magazine news, we have an extra subscription to Fast Company hanging around our office and would like to give it away. As we are always interested in meeting folks who are charged with finding and selecting keynote speakers for meetings or conferences we thought we would use the subscription to encourage your help in making a connection. The first Corporate Jester newsletter subscriber who provides an introduction that results in a serious discussion about a keynote opportunity within your organization gets the subscription! Is this a shallow attempt to bribe you into helping us spread the Corporate Jester word? Absolutely! Click here to contact us with your referral.
We want to share another neat resource with you, Corporate Training Magazine. This Magazine was originally established to serve as an educational and information resource for corporate decision-makers and training professionals in Canada but is now expanding its focus (and subscription base) into the US. The magazine brings news and information on the latest tips, trends and initiatives in all fields of training, presenting viewpoints of leading industry experts from the soft skills arena of leadership and customer service, crossing over into the areas of technology and occupational health and safety as well as emerging fields such as e-learning and workplace wellness.
We like this magazine! You can check out the free, on-line edition, by clicking here. |

Global Impact with Kiva |
As a Corporate Jester, we applaud you for making a difference in your organization - but how about making a difference in the rest of the business world - for people who really need help?
Kiva is a clever website that allows you to loan money (in increments as low as $25) to unique small businesses in the developing world through micro loan financing. Using Kiva, you "sponsor a business" and help the world's working poor make great strides towards economic independence. Throughout the course of the loan (usually 6-12 months), you can receive email journal updates from the business you've sponsored.
We love Kiva!

Record Breaking Jester! |
|
Last month we mentioned that "The Secret Life of the Corporate Jester" cracked a Top 100 category on Amazon.com - a first for us. We were so proud.
This month we were even more surprised and delighted to see that the book did it again - in two categories!
Over the course of the month the book reached #25 in the Management & Leadership "Teams" category and #75 in the Business Management "Organizational Behavior" category! Wow.
We would love to keep the ball rolling, and need your help. If you haven't yet provided a positive "reader review" on Amazon.com we would appreciate it if you would do so now. Posting one is quick, easy and would make us smile.
Just click here to be taken to the book's page on Amazon and look for the " create your own review" button. Thanks!! |

More Sleep for Dave |
|
Dave Riveness, our CEO, has been traveling quite a bit lately (this past month to Germany, Vegas, Romania, Toronto, Dubai and Taiwan). He also is famous for not sleeping very well on long flights.
After running across the Burton Sleeper Hoodie on Gizmodo we knew we found the perfect, appropriate gift to show our thanks to Dave for taking on those international flight adventures.
This clever hoodie actually has a inflatable neck pillow and sleeping mask built right in! The fact that it also has a huge picture of a plane on the front only clinched the purchase for us. We wish you more sleep on future flights, Dave.

One quick request from the editorial team. Each month we try to put together a newsletter that is fun, informative and has a little something for everyone. How are we doing?
Could you take a moment to drop us a line to tell us what you have enjoyed most in past editions? What would you like to see more of? We want to continue to bring you a newsletter you look forward to opening each month!
Thanks for being a part of Corporate Jester.
Sincerely,
The Newsletter Team Corporate Jester
