I just wanted to offer a brief update concerning working with the eclipse energies. For a longer de-briefing, the 23-page Total Solar Eclipse e-book (see below) is still available. It provides more detailed information on eclipses in general, this eclipse in particular, and the energetic signature of this experience.

 

Keep in mind that the heart of this Eclipse Portal (which has 3 eclipses) opened on June 22 (Summer Solstice/New Moon), peaks on July 22 (the TSE), and closes around August 19 with the New Moon in Leo.

In addition, this Eclipse Portal opened on June 22 with the Summer Solstice/New Moon, and only days later (on June 25) Michael Jackson died suddenly. A strange aside: he was famous for that dance-step of the 1980's - the (you guessed it) Moon Walk.

 

Really, that's exactly what happens at the time of a Total Solar Eclipse: the Moon Walks Across the Sun. Our attention is being drawn upward and to the Moon specifically. Today the moon will extinguish the sun in what is being called 'the eclipse of the century' by many astronomers and astrologers. So, how to work with these energies?

 

KEY #1: this TSE is in the zodiac sign of Cancer. Cancer is all about security, nurturing (of self and others), mother (you as a mother, and also 'mother issues'), food (including comfort food), safety, nesting, taking care of your 'babies' (not only children but books, projects and etc). Sensitive Cancerian is known to crawl back into his/her shell due to heightened sensitivity and emotional overflow. The key thing to ask yourself is: where does my security come from? You might be feeling insecure under the influence of this TSE. Listen to what your insecurities are telling you. What are you afraid of? What makes you feel 'not safe'?

 

KEY #2: When the Moon blots out the Sun, ask yourself: what do I want to be blotted out in my life? What do I want to be eclipsed so that something else can take the spotlight? In fact, you can allow your insecurities to be extinguished. Keep in mind that whatever ends at the time of a Total Solar Eclipse will probably not Restart again. Ever.

 

You can use this energy consciously. How? Through MEDITATION.

However you meditate - whatever your practice is - it is a good idea to do it at the time of the Eclipse if at all possible. Keep it simple, all you have to do is sit quietly with the energies. And keep in mind that the Eclipse Portal lasts through August 19th, so you can practice this exercise throughout that entire time. There are two levels to this:

(1) For your own spiritual progress. The eclipse can help you to diminish the ego's (the little self's) grip on you. The term eclipse is derived from the ancient Greek and is translated as: 'I cease to exist,' or 'I am absent.' Total Solar Eclipses have often been referred to as THE EYE OF GOD. And so i (the little i) can cease to exist, so that the EYE can exist. i (the little i) can be absent so that THE EYE can be present. TSE's are a spiritual wind at your back towards enlightenment. (2) For Humanity. This eclipse is massive in many ways. The length of time the Moon covers the Sun (totality) is nearly the maximum possible, the fact that the the Moon's shadow is only 275 miles north of the center of the earth (unusual centrality), and the fact that the land mass the shadow will descend upon is crammed with people. There are huge HUGE populations in the sweeping totality of this eclipse and they are vulnerable. Four of China's 10 largest cities (14 million people by conservative estimate) are in the path of totality. And that's not even counting the swath of land the Shadow will touch in India. That's A LOT of people.

 

One of the astrological energy signatures of this eclipse is: "This family of eclipses is concerned with the need to make sudden reforms. Old ideas or methods will fail and new systems are required to deal with the events brought out by the eclipse. Any blocks could be violently or tragically removed."

We can help on an energetic level. Simply pray for gentle effects and hold the beings in the path of this eclipse in quiet love.

Of all the planets in this solar system, only earth witnesses close-fitting Solar Eclipses. But they won't last forever! The Moon is moving very slowly away from the Earth. There will come a time when it will be too far to cover the Sun completely. The last total eclipse of the Sun will occur roughly 700 million years from now.

A Total Solar Eclipse is a very calm, lovely sight. Strange, wavy lines called shadow bands can be seen on the Earth's surface. Animals spontaneously go to sleep.

 

Conquerors used eclipses to their advantage against unknowing indigenous cultures.  In 1504, while stranded on Jamaica, Christopher Columbus "predicted" a lunar eclipse on February 29th of that year. This prediction was based on celestial tables that he had brought with him, thereby intimidating the island's natives into continuing to provision him and his men, saving them from death by starvation.

Did you know that Einstein relied on an eclipse to prove his Theory of Relativity? In addition, the May 19, 1919 "Einstein Eclipse" is in the same "family" (Saros Cycle) of eclipses as the current July 22, 2009 TSE.
