Registration is open for the Summer of 2011!

As we register for the summer of 2011.....yes, you read correctly, 2011... it is time to review the summer of 2010.

Hot weather and lots of splashing in the pools and pond certainly dominated Trip 1. The weather didn't prevent a lively performance of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat! In a soccer match with camp Avoda, the JORI team lost a well- played game by one goal. JORI swimmers brought home several ribbons from the swim meet at Camp Pembroke.Campers also enjoyed: sock wrestling, revival, a carnival, campfires, Olympics....the list goes on and on. Trip 1 campers reveled in a songwriting workshop and evening concert with Naomi Less, Jewish Chick Rocker!

Trip 2 was ushered in with a stretch of great weather, auditions for The Music Man, and new challenges on the ropes course. As some campers learned to kneeboard with our new equipment, others prepared for a sunrise fishing trip. Second trip campers also enjoyed a circus themed afternoon event, two swim meets with Camp Fuller, along with the very special dedication of the "Main House" at camp.  The "Main House" was dedicated to the memory of long-time cherished JORI camper and counselor Dan Schuster. A lively concert by Dan Mills and his band, which had campers and guests dancing in their seats, completed our dedication evening. Trip 2 and the summer of 2010 ended with a wonderful end-of-the-season banquet and celebration.

Mitzvah of the Month!

Welcoming Guests
Mitzvot are commandments, rules and guidance for us to live a full, enriching life. There are 613 mitzvot in the Torah, and each month we will feature a mitzvah that will enrich your JORI experience.

We have just completed the holiday of
Sukkot. Sukkot remembers the time when Jews were making their journey through the desert. It also marks the time of the harvest. Sukkot is marked by the building of a sukkah which families use to eat in, play in, and even sleep in during the entire holiday. A sukkah must be built so that stars are visible through the top. It is customary to welcome guests to share the holiday with us in the Sukkah.

Camp and Sukkot? Welcoming others is a basic part of camp life. Newcomers to a cabin group are welcomed into the community with respect, interest, and a hand extended in friendship. Stars, camping in the nature trail, and cooking outdoors are part of a JORI experience that is a lot like sukkot in the summer.
