You know you're a JORI camper when....

you've taken water aerobics with ronda
you've seen an olympic torch lit buy  a short over-40 guy running around in a toga
you've sat on an invisible bench at a campfire
you know all the hand motions for the chorus of the circle game
you have a song in your heart and tear in your eye whenever someone leaves on a  jet plane
you feel like tye-dying every time you see any article of white clothing
you think all fruit should come in a white bucket
you've had the sniff test for sunscreen or bugspray at inspection

Mitzvah of the Month!

10 commandments

Don't Covet
Mitzvot are commandments, rules and guidance for us to live a full, enriching life. There are 613 mitzvot in the Torah, and each month we will feature a mitzvah that will enrich your JORI experience.

We have just completed the holiday of Shavuot, remembering the giving of the Torah at Mt Sinai. The 10th commandment or Mitzvah is the one that tells us not to "covet " the possessions of others. Each mitzvah is important, in various situations in our lives. Camp is the great equalizer! We all live together with many of the same advantages, and much of the same "stuff". It doesn't fit into a camp vocabulary to covet or to really really want someone else's stuff.
Camp is the place to live together with similar opportunity to experience new things, practice favorite activities, and to place value on inter-personal experience, not the accumulation of "stuff"

Summer Shlichim 2010!

Ronni was in Israel from April 4-18. during that time, she trained with this summer's group of
Israeli staff (shlichim).
Just Like Bruce's Magic Cookies

Ingredients
1/2 cup butter, melted
1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1 (14 ounce) can EAGLE BRAND® Sweetened Condensed Milk
2 cups semisweet chocolate morsels
1 1/3 cups flaked coconut
1 cup chopped nuts

Directions
Heat oven to 350 degrees F (325 degrees for glass dish). Coat 13x9-inch baking pan with no-stick cooking spray.
Combine graham cracker crumbs and butter. Press into bottom of prepared pan. Pour sweetened condensed milk evenly over crumb mixture. Layer evenly with chocolate chips, coconut and nuts. Press down firmly with a fork.
Bake 25 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool. Cut into bars.  Store covered at room temperature.

Bruce leaves out the nuts for our allergic friends and these taste just as delicious!
