FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

United Way offers free tax preparation

Bryan, Ohio - February 18, 2010 - The United Way of Williams County is once again offering free tax preparation services to the residents of Williams County.  Individuals and households with an Adjusted Gross Income of $57,000 or less can file their taxes for free through the United Way's Ohio Benefit Bank program.

Tax clinics have already been held in Bryan and West Unity, and will be held in each community through tax season.  A schedule of upcoming tax clinics is below.

The benefits of having your taxes done by the United Way include a focus on all available tax credits, including the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), and fast refunds without taking out an expensive loan.  Nearly 150 households were helped during the last tax year, and $200,000 was brought back to Williams County through this program.

The United Way program takes about 60-90 minutes to complete, and will allow you to paper file or e-file your federal, Ohio state and Ohio school district income taxes for free.

Those interested in making an appointment to have their taxes completed should contact First Call for Help by calling 2-1-1 or 1-800-468-4357.

Individuals who feel comfortable using a computer may file their own taxes for free at www.ohiofilesfree.com.

United Way is still looking for volunteer counselors to help prepare taxes.  No prior experience is necessary.  To become a tax volunteer, please contact Rachel Arend at 419-636-8603 or via email at rarend@unitedwaywc.org.
