Tax volunteers sought by United Way
|
Bryan, Ohio - January 11, 2010 - The United Way is encouraging area individuals and groups to become volunteer tax preparers this season.
In Ohio alone, more than 1.6 billion dollars in tax credits and work support programs are unclaimed by Ohio citizens. United Way is working to change this statistic, and last year, helped more than 100 households to file their taxes quickly and free of charge.
United Way of Williams County, in collaboration with the Ohio Benefit Bank, is looking for enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers this 2010 tax season. We have a goal of assisting 200 households this year.
Volunteers will be trained to assist clients in doing their income taxes using the Ohio Benefit Bank tax software. The volunteer training is simple and covers the basics of what is required to complete an income tax return, and how to utilize the Benefit Bank as a question-guided tool to screen for various tax credits, as well as simply completing a return.
Prior tax preparation experience is not necessary. If you can use a computer, have a basic understanding of financial concepts, and a desire to help your neighbors, you are qualified.
The time commitment is flexible but will include one day of training and weekly opportunities to volunteer at tax clinics in the area during tax season.
To become a tax volunteer with the United Way, please contact Rachel Arend at 419-636-8603 or via email at rarend@unitedwaywc.org.
United Way is in the process of scheduling its tax clinics for this year. Further information about the schedule and how to make an appointment will be provided at a later date.
