United Way at 21% of goal
Bryan, Ohio - October 22, 2009 - United Way of Williams County has reached 21 percent of its $330,000 goal, officials announced today.

Since the drive began in September, the local United Way has received pledges and gifts totaling $70,956, slightly ahead of the amount raised at the same time last year.

"We are glad to reach the one-fifth mark of our campaign," said Tom and Dee Balser, Campaign 2009 Chairs.  "However, we still have a long road ahead of us to help those in need."

Companies reporting results thus far include:
  • ITW/Tomco Plastic with employee pledges of $10,240.80.  The ITW Corporation matches employee gifts dollar-for-dollar, so the total generated there is $20,481, up 46% over the past year.
  • Andres O'Neil and Lowe Agency, with employee pledges to date of $12,471.  The campaign there is still in progress.
  • Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers, with employee pledges totaling $4,836.50.
  • Anderson Vreeland, with corporate and employee giving totaling $1,748.

In addition to those results which have been reported to the United Way office thus far, there are numerous other corporate campaigns currently underway.  The annual Thomas M. Herman Leadership Giving Circle kicked off its leadership campaign this week.

"We are cautiously optimistic about this campaign," said Chris Malanga, Chief Executive Officer.  "While unemployment is still high, we hope that those that are still working will give as generously as they can."

Officials stressed that it's not too late to run a workplace campaign, but that the organization hopes to wrap up all fund-raising efforts by Thanksgiving.

Those interested in conducting a United Way campaign at their workplace should contact the United Way at 419-636-8603 or visit their website at www.unitedwaywc.org.  Gifts may be mailed to P.O. Box 525, Bryan, Ohio 43506.
