Williams County awarded federal funds
FEMA funds to be used for emergency food and shelter in the county

Bryan, Ohio - March 3, 2008 -
Williams County has been chosen to receive $28,305 in federal funds to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the county.  The selection was made by a National Board that is chaired by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and consists of representatives from the Salvation Army; American Red Cross; United Jewish Communities; Catholic Charities, USA; National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA; and the United Way of America.  A Local Board is charged to distribute funds appropriated by Congress to help expand the capacity of food and shelter programs in our county.

A Local Board made up of representatives from the United Way of Williams County, the Salvation Army, Red Cross, Catholic Charities, the Bryan Area Ministerial Association, Northwest Ohio Community Action Committee and governmental officials will determine how the funds awarded to Williams County are to be distributed among the emergency food and shelter programs run by local service agencies in the area.  The Local Board is responsible for recommending agencies to receive these funds and any additional funds available under this phase of the program.

Under the terms of the grant from the National Board, local agencies chosen to receive funds must: 1)  be private voluntary non-profits or units of government, 2)  have an accounting system, 3)  practice nondiscrimination, 4)  have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs, and 5)  if they are a private voluntary organization, they must have a voluntary board.  Qualifying agencies that serve Williams County are urged to apply.

Public or private voluntary agencies interested in applying for Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) Phase 26 funds must request an application by emailing the United Way of Williams County at wecare@unitedwaywc.org.  The deadline for returning applications is 12:00 noon, Tuesday, March 18, 2008.

Williams County has distributed EFSP funds previously with Northwest Ohio Community Action, Rural Opportunities, Inc., Potter's Hands Restoration Center, Community Compassion, and Center for Child and Family Advocacy.
