Today is the final day of this financial reporting period...
Dear Friend,
As we have just wrapped up the second Session of the 106th General Assembly, let me thank you for giving me the honor and privilege of serving as your state Representative.
In Nashville, I am working hard to support public
policies grounded in the conservative values of
freedom, faith, and individual responsibility.
As you may know, while we are in Session, we are legally prohibited from raising money. However, my opponent has not been under this restriction, and has been free to raise money since April. Our first campaign financial reporting period ends today, and this is an important time for us to show a strong report! Before I ask you to give once again, let me remind you what I stand for.
The Tennessee Constitution requires the legislature
to pass a balanced budget. Given the enormous
reduction in tax revenue due to the deep national
economic recession, doing so is a formidable
challenge. Of course, there are those who believe the
answer is to raise taxes. However, I am of the firm
conviction that we must not increase taxes.
Increasing the tax burden on Tennessee
workers,
families and businesses is exactly the wrong thing to
do in the midst of a recession. Higher taxes kill
economic growth and job creation. You can count on
me to stand strongly against new or higher
taxes.
In tough economic times government must be fiscally
responsible. Government must do what Tennessee
families are doing - tightening the belt, spending
less, and re-ordering spending priorities. By doing
so, we can continue to adequately fund essential
services.
As your state Representative, I am not only working for
responsible and conservative economic policy in
terms of taxes and spending, but I am working
hard to limit illegal immigration. Illegal
immigration drives up the cost of education,
healthcare, law enforcement and the justice system,
and social services by millions and millions of
dollars. It is unfair, unjust, and, I believe, immoral, to
require hard-working Tennesseans to fund services
for illegal aliens.
As I promised in my campaign, I have been pro-active
in the defense of innocent human life. I
supported SJR 127 which gives Tennesseans the
right to amend our Constitution and undo the radical,
pro-abortion decision of the state Supreme Court
which would keep abortion-on-demand legal in
Tennessee even if Roe v. Wade is overturned by the
U.S. Supreme Court. I know that most of my
constituents do not want Tennessee to become the
abortion capital of the nation.
Also, exactly as I pledged, I have been pro-active in
support of the U.S. Constitution's Second Amendment
guarantee of the "right to keep and bear arms." This
right empowers citizens to resist government tyranny.
Therefore, it is the guarantor of all other freedoms.
The right to keep and bear arms is not just about
personal self-defense or hunting rights; it is about
preserving liberty. And I will never compromise on this
important issue!
My fiscal and social conservatism and my
opposition to illegal immigration have made me a big
target of all the Liberal Special Interest Groups! They
want to defeat me in 2010!
The Democrat Party is still upset that my victory
over a Democrat incumbent in 2008 gave
Republicans a one seat majority (50-49) in the
Tennessee House of Representatives for the first time
in nearly 140 years.
In fact, the Chairman of the House Democrat
Caucus personally told me that defeating me and
regaining the District 66 House seat is their top priority!
The Democrats and their Liberal, Left-wing friends
are desperate to re-take control of the Tennessee
House. A Republican victory in a special election
in a Shelbyville district that had been a Democrat seat
increased our majority to 51-48, so the Democrats are
all the more motivated to defeat me. Beating me
is vital to their strategy to re-take the House and put a
Democrat back in the Speaker's chair to advance a
Liberal Agenda.
The Political Left is ready to spend big money to
defeat me. That's for sure.
In 2008, the Democrats spent over $120,000 attempting to defeat me and the values we stand for. This year, there has been talk of spending even more!
Therefore, I need your financial help today! In this hard-fought campaign, I will need every possible dollar to communicate my positive conservative message and to counter the very negative attack ads of the Democrats.
