After months of delays, lawsuits and redistricting fights, last Tuesday brought the long awaited Texas Primary Election. On the whole, candidates receiving support from IFAPAC fared well May 29, including NAIFA-Texas member/incumbent Senator Tommy Williams (Dist. 4), who won his race outright. NAIFA-Texas member incumbent Rep. Jim Landtroop (Dist. 88) and former NAIFA-Fort Worth president Ken Sapp (Dist. 91) are headed to runoffs.
Also unable to avoid a runoff was Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, who will face former Texas Solicitor General Ted Cruz July 21 as they vie for the seat being vacated by Republican U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison.
Texas and national IFAPAC have been active participants in this election cycle and are gearing up for what promises to be an interesting general election this fall. Do your part by supporting IFAPAC with a modest contribution of $100, and you will also be entered into a contest to win a Kindle Fire (contributions must be made by June 15 to qualify). IFAPAC contributors can also get more involved by serving as a Key Contact - a grassroots volunteer responsible for delivering PAC checks and maintaining a relationship with a legislator.

An agent sold an applicant a life insurance policy that was intended to replace an old life insurance policy. However, the agent surrendered the first policy before the application for the second policy was even submitted and before the second policy was issued. The second insurer declined to issue the second policy and the applicant died one day later when the declination letter was issued by the insurer. Therefore, no life insurance policy was in force when the applicant died. The applicant's mother made a claim for the death benefits under both policies, or $250,000, plus interest and attorney's fees.
Risk Management Tip:
Confirmation of placement of insurance should occur before the surrender of existing coverage.
Coverage may not be in force until the policy is delivered and the agent may have a duty to withhold the policy if the agent believes the client's health status is not as represented - review the underwriting guidelines of the carrier before proceeding.
For more information about CalSurance and/or to apply online, visit www.naifaeo.com or call 888-833-2304.
Additionally, save 10% on your premium by completing a new online risk management course available exclusively to NAIFA members. The course is free, or pay a nominal fee to receive CE credit as well. For more information, visit naifamember.smartpros.com. |
