General Convention Information

Schedule of Events:  A full schedule of the events is now available for download.  Please note that there have been some minor changes to the schedule since it was initially released.

Attire: Business casual dress is optimal for all TLRT Roundup events on Thursday evening and Friday.

The NAIFA-Texas Welcome party on Friday evening is being hosted at an outdoor dinner-theatre.  Due to the Texas heat, please dress casually and comfortably for the event.

Business dress (coat and tie for men, dress or business suit for women) is advised for the NAIFA-Texas Legislative Luncheon and NAIFA-Texas Annual Meeting on Saturday.

The attire for the Presidents' Gala will be Texas chic.  This includes boots, blue jeans and a sports coat for the men and dressy casual attire for the women.

Parking:  Parking is complimentary and is available in the surface lot surrounding the Inn of the Hills.  Upon arrival you may park under the covered canopy for check-in.  The front desk attendant can direct you to the parking area nearest your room.

Past Presidents: Past TALU/TAIFA/NAIFA-Texas Presidents will meet from 9:30am - 11:30am on Saturday, July 26 in the pool-side Board Room.  They will be recognized at the Legislative Luncheon and, again, at the Presidents' Gala where the Lifetime Achievement Award recipient will be announced.
Annual Meeting 2008

On July 26, delegates from NAIFA-Texas' twenty-six local associations will consider several bylaws amendments that would abolish the current regional director form of governance and establish a trustee system, to take effect in July of 2009.  The amendments, recommended by the NAIFA-Texas board of directors in March 2008, would put the governance of NAIFA-Texas in line with the current governance system employed at NAIFA.

Under the trustee form of governance, seven trustees, elected at large from amongst the membership, would replace the current ten regional directors that make up the NAIFA-Texas board.  No more than two members of each local will be eligible to serve as trustees at the same time.

Additionally, delegates will consider shortening the term of office for the NAIFA-Texas National Committeeman and instituting a three term limit on the office.

Delegates are encouraged to review all of the proposed bylaws amendments in advance of the meeting of NAIFA-Texas' delegate council.

Legislative Luncheon to Focus on
Developing Federal Issues

With the 2008 elections on the horizon, NAIFA is monitoring issues at the Federal level that could threaten the industry.  A constant threat arises from the "Pay As You Go" budget rules that have been enacted in both the House and the Senate, which require that revenue must be found for every dollar of expense Congress authorizes.  This need for more revenue places the tax benefits of life, health, disability income, long-term care insurance and annuities under the scrutiny of the tax-writing committees of Congress.

With these issues in mind, the 2008 Legislative Luncheon, to be held on July 26 in conjunction with the NAIFA-Texas Annual Meeting, will focus on issues at the Federal level.  Charlie Stenholm, a senior political advisor to a Washington, D.C. based firm and former member of the U.S. House of Representatives, will offer NAIFA-Texas members with an "inside the beltway" perspective of legislative issues and the current environment on Capitol Hill leading up to the 2008 elections.  The event will be sponsored by Southwest Insurance Agency, Inc.
