40 over 40-A collection of black and white nudes opens March 17
at Museum of Cultural Arts Houston, benefits Pink Door
Houston, Texas... 40 women. 1 photographer. Four years of work. 40 unique black and white prints now known as 40 over 40. The unique collection of black and white prints, which illuminates the unique spirit of its female subjects, spans four years; but what a journey for the photographer, Jeff Myers, and the women who volunteered to participate. A VIP premiere of 40 over 40 will be held March 14 at Hotel Granduca. Pink Door and Museum of Cultural Arts Houston will receive a significant portion of the proceeds from the VIP premier event.
MOCAH Co-Founder, Rhonda Radford-Adams is one of the models in the exhibition. Rhonda says, "The opportunity to be a part of such an empowering experience has inspired me to embrace who I am and to celebrate my body as a reflection of my life's work. I am honored to be a part of this exhibition and to co-create this body of work with Jeff and the women of the 40/40 collection."
The exhibition will then open to the public on March 17 in conjunction with FOTO FEST at the Museum of Cultural Arts Houston. Read more..

Art Angels to Demonstrate
The Art of Leadership at Woodson Academy
|
|
"The Art of Leadership" is a community based art project that uses expressive art as a tool to promote emotional wellness to 30 sixth grade students attending Woodson's K-8 Leadership Academy. Central to the school's curriculum is direct instruction and preparation in becoming a leader. The uniqure art-in-wellness program is being lead by Art Angels Director, Rhonda Radford-Adams.
The Art of Leadership project is designed to compliment this existing curriculum by providing expressive arts workshops using the art mediums of mandala art (fractal geometry) an d creative writing.
These mediums are used as a means to introduce children to coping mechanism for mental health. The activities are designed to support young people by exposing them to this art form that brings focus to establishing and recognizing patterns in their day to day lives among community, school, friends and family members.
By creatively recognizing life patterns, students gain the opportunity to build, strengthen and implement stronger decision making skills which is at the core of creating 'Great Leaders'.

Sugarland Middle School
S.M.Art Garden Project
|

"The S.M. Art Garden Project " (Science Math ART) is a collaboration with MD Anderson, Sugarland Middle School and MOCAH. The purpose is to assist with providing and conducting hands on mural art activities using fractal geometry or "Mandala Art" techniques to enhance the school's garden, while also teaching about environmental, life-science and math concepts. The garden mural project will be implemented throughout the Fall 2011 and Spring 2012 school year. The final mural designs will depict a creative message about the valuable role life the sciences play in the purpose, preservation, restoration and sustainability of our environment. Sugarland Middle School will present this environmentally themed mural during a culminating event hosted in celebration of Earth Day. |
MOCAH & Boniuk Center for Religious Tolerance
The Unveiling
|
Over the course of two months (January 8- February 26th), 24 students from 15 different schools across Houston worked alongside The Boniuk Center for Religious Tolerance at Rice Universitystaff and Museum of Cultural Arts Houston (MOCAH) artists to create a mural that answers the question, "What does a religiously and culturally tolerant society look like?" The mural unveiling took place on March 3 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at MOCAH Studios (908 Wood St.), and is the capstone project for The Boniuk Center's 2nd Annual Sacred Sites Quest (SSQ II), a program for middle and high school students that aims to enhance religious literacy, while promoting interfaith dialogue.
