ART OF CULTURE SERIES A SUCCESS!

The Museum of Cultural Arts Houston (MOCAH) successfully kicked off the "Art of Culture" series celebrating the visual, culinary and musical art forms of African American heritage and raised over $7000.00 in addition to selling 8 pieces of art on Saturday, February 20, 2010.  Over 150 lively guests experienced the good life: art, wine, food and music provided by some of Houston's finest.

The day started with a children's workshop that featured artists teaching the kids how to create arts and crafts with an African American heritage theme. Rhonda Radford Adams, Nicole Bent, Ann "Solesister" Johnson and Akua Fayette all created great projects to engage the kids and their parents during the workshop. That evening while guests indulged in complimentary Bud Light products, MOCAH Martinis donated by Belvedere vodka and a South African wine tasting provided by Branwar International; the event's mood was set by the melodic grooves of Joe Carmouche and acoustic sounds of Tony Henry.  Echoes of onlookers voices reverberated through MOCAH's studio with awe inspiring dialogue of the phenomenal art that adorned the walls by Houston's premier contemporary African American artists including Rhonda Radford Adams, Donovan Casanave, Ted Ellis, Robert Hodge, Troy Julian, Lovie O'Lovia, Michael Khalil Taylor, Greg Van Castor, Ann "Solesister" Johnson", Akua Fayette, Prince Kalu Maduekwe, and Toni Whitaker.  The magical evening was underscored by the seafood pasta, sweet potato tarts and exquisite cupcakes prepared by chefs: Tarsha Gray of Crave, Bryan Warren of Warren's Catering, Tara Robertson of Magnolia Rose and Ann Neal of Kakes Xcetera.  The evening culminated in a exceptional "gallery talk" followed by Q &A featuring art collectors, Terrence Hobdy and Joe Stephens along with acclaimed artists, Ted Ellis and Toni Whitaker.

The Art of Culture series is sponsored by Bud Light/ Silver Eagle Distributors, Bayway Lincoln Mercury, McConnell & Jones LLP, Arnold & Langrand Communications, The Gite Gallery, and Derrick King Attorney at Law.  The event continues with the next experience planned for May 22nd, 2010 celebrating Asian Pacific American Heritage and Hispanic Heritage in September 2010.
